Hi Mares good luck tomorrow; sending you positive thoughts. This was a great discussion thread to read - I have not yet started my chemo - hoping to get firm dates next week-but in the meantime will keep reading and following the example of the amazing women here - including you.

I went to the wig library today and got my loan wig - its never been worn before and looks great. I look better than normal ha ha. its pretty comfortable to wear. Had lots of fun trying on wigs - what lovely support people are out there for us.

Hi Hazel, and thanks all your comments were very helpful, I think what may lay ahead is to be forwarned is to be forarmed, and like you I want to be on top of it and proactive. So far so good still, and have been pretty busy, getting organised and up to date with everything for tomorrow or the day after when things mightn't be so good. Will keep you updated, and thanks again. xx

I learnt a few things on chemo, I had indigestion and heartburn, eating smaller meals helped. I got used to the cycles and how they worked and you will too.  Instead of waiting  for the side effects to happen, I became proactive. I took Panadol Osteo just before the aches in my legs were due to start (usually on Day 4 or 5) & of course, take the anti-nausea medication they give you. Always try to rest when you need to, there were some days when my energy levels were non-existant. I was also advised to drink plenty of water and I did, however, on Docetaxol I became quite ill and had to be hospitalised and they told me I was dehydrated. That's not to say that will happen to you, everybody is so different. You will be just fine, I kept reminding myself that the drugs were killing off any bad cells that may have been left over from my operation. Unfortunately, the drugs also take out some good cells but these repair themselves and the bad one can't.  Hope I've been some help, take care, Hazel xx

Good to hear from you Joanne, and especially as you are one step ahead of me, and also on the FEC. This is my second day after 1st one and so far so good, time will tell. I know my team are doing all they can with anti nausea tabs and lots of advice for when and if different things happen. I have been told to expect to feel very tired at the least from the next day or so onwards. In the meantime am keeping up with everything and getting organised if I do go flat.

Have my hairdresser on standby with the clippers for when needed and have a beanie and cap, but on the look out for more bits and pieces, really like the idea of just a fringe as I don't mind playing with scarves and maybe turbans.

Good luck with your first treatment. I am on the FEC cocktail as well and had Round 2 a week ago. Apart from a bit of nausea and reflux which I could handle with medication and the usual tiredness, all went well. I drank a lot of water with ginger in it which got me through and chewing licorice, mints or ginger chews helped. I even resorted to chuppa chups.

I think my hairdresser was more upset than I was to shave my head but it is worth doing by the 2nd week as you will feel better for it as your scalp can get tight and sore. I love experimenting with all the scarves etc and also attending the LGFB workshop on the Gold Coast and it was amazing! I ended buying a wig online and just getting a fringe for special times as I found them to be very hot and do not mind just doing the scarves etc.

Just listen to your body and rest when you are tired and keep yourself mentally busy. The medical team who treat us all are wonderful people and it looks like you are well prepared and have your support team of family and friends.

I found writing a blog helped me and my support network as then everyone knew what was happening and felt they were in the loop.
