Treatment options ?

Hi All,  Hope your all doing better than i am. :( I started Chemo (AC) in may, and was on 4th cycle, when the doctors reviewed my scan and realised that the treatment was only target one area of my body. I have mets, in breast, bones, and now liver. They swapped my treatment to Chemo - Abraxane. As you could imagine I was dissapointed, sad, lonely and  i still cannot stop think about my options - are they running out? Will this chemo work? Who's to say it will. I have cried for days, and i still cannot get a hold of myself. I have been pretty strong throughtout this journey, and im at the point were i feel i cannot do it alone. I need my bcna support friends. If anyone has anything to share, please reply. Im just confused and sad.

I am very sorry to hear that you've hit a stumbling block in your treatment :-(. I have bone mets and lung mets, and have found it a challenge finding the right treatment for me, so I know how you feel....disappointed, confused, sad, devastated, terrified and alone no doubt! Someone very wise once said to me "you've hit a detour in your treatment...not a road block" and this sounds like where you are at......so please do not lose hope!

I had 6 cycles of Taxotere, before being told that my cancer had become resistant to it, and had spread to my bones. I was totally devastated. I was frightened and confused. What does this mean? Will this cancer be controlable? Will a new treatment work? Will I die? I understand your fear Miss V and it's a dreadful feeling. Having said that however, it is very important not to give up hope!

Like you, my chemo was swapped to a different one (Vinorilbene). After much anxiety and waiting for results, my new treatment is working...and working well! Please know that this can happen for you too! :-) The uncertainty is tough I know.....the unknown is scary.....but from what I understand there are many chemo combinations out there that can be tried!..never give up...Take care, Celeste?

  • I am also on Abraxane, as well Herceptin, and have just finished cycle 5, I was diagnosed in March this year, and my scans after cycle 3 showed a good reduction in all my cancers, I have it in my breasts, spine, ribs, overies, lymph nodes and around my heart and lungs. I haven't had any surgery as I was told it was to wide spead to operate so was put straight on to chemo. I know what it feels like to feel sad and alone in your journey, even though I have a great group of friends who are very supportive unless your going through it you don't really know.  I hope that I have been able to help just a little and that Abraxane works for you as well as it works for me.

  • A giant big {{{{{hug}}}}} to you.

Utilise your McGrath Nurse if available. They are a great support and hopefully can buddy you up with someone locally who is travelling a similar path.
