Tired and grumpy after herceptin

I have found that I am often tired and grumpy the day after Herceptin which I have every 3 weeks. Every second time I also have Zometa. I am still tired and grumpy then as well. I can't work out if it is just me because treatment reminds me I am living with secondary cancer or because I am confined to one spot for treatment and have to slow down temporarily so then I can actually feel tired or if it is actually some sort of chemical reaction or something else altogether. I feel bad even airing this publicly, particularly as it is so minor compared with the original chemo treatment, but I am interested to know if anyone else has experienced anything like this.

  • glad i was able to help (even in a small way)..i know what u mean about being the organiser!..I was always the 'boss' of the house & knew all that had to happen when..so i really hate this 'chemo brain' which never seems to work as well anymore, and the fact that i really can't be bothered with thinking too much at times- SOOOO not me!!!

I will send thru a contact request..ur situation sounds a lot like mine and i think we are on the same wavelength..accept if u wish-no pressure tho

Have a great easter-enjoy something special and time with ur family- i know i am :)

  • Thanks Sam. It is nice to know that someone else also gets tired after treatment. Sometimes, when you are just trying to get on with it you feel a bit isolated in your experience. Thinking about the grumpiness, maybe it is just an adjunct to being tired. Anway at least it doesn't persist. Like you I don't have an end date for treatment with Herceptin - it just goes on until it doesn't work and then , I am assured we will move on to something else. Its all a bit weird when you think about it too much, especially if you are used to being the organiser rather than the one being organised. Good thought about doing something enjoyable after treatment. I have taken to getting a Trampoline icecream before I head home but a more lengthy chill out for me would be even better.

Hope you enjoy the rest of the Easter break.

  • Hi..i too have secondary cancer and have been on herceptin since feb 2010 (initially along with my 8 doses of chemo) & will continue indefinately. I understand what u mean about the 'reminder' and i also feel very tired on the afternoon and following day of treatment. I usually fall asleep 1/2 way home (we travel about 50 mins to get to treatment) and feel quite tired for another day.  My family are used to me being sleepy now!!   i don't think i get grumpy (u might have to check with the rest of the household) but maybe thats a sign of frustration for you???? Every now and then i have a down day and feel frustrated that i don't have an end date for treatment (yet!!)....maybe plan something nice for urself the following day, like a massage or facial, a movie, whatever is enjoyable for YOU..this way at least u can look forward to something special straight after treatment day..just a thought

Hope u have a great day
