The results are in!

Well yesterday was a really hard day. I went to the hospital and got my pathology results. Positive to hormone receptors, one cancer in the left breast removed about 10cm long and 7 of my 16 removed lymph nodes showed cancer. Waaa!

It is hard to take when you are still getting over a mastectomy that happened only 10 days ago! I came home and took the bandages off for the first time and yes, it was confronting, but it doesn't look too bad. I think the surgeon did a really good job. At least I am still here.

Next it is time for more tests before starting the treatment regime: they are going to throw the kitchen sink at me! Chemotherapy, radiation therapy and then hormone treatment. Wow, what an exciting year ahead! It is certainly not what I had expected for 2012.

Now it's time to pause and take a moment......

  • Hi Birdgirl, knowing is better than not knowing. A least now there can be a treatment plan in the making. Good luck with all your scans. Thinking of you. Love Chris xx
  • I am thinking of you, it is tough but stay positive. I know you feel like you are totally alone (I do, no one can understand what we are going through unless you have been there yourself). My tumour was 80 x 40 x 20 mm. Even the surgeon was shocked as only 2.6 cm showed on the mammogram!

Hang in there, stay positive. The chemo sucks but it is done for a reason

  • It's awful to have to start a new year with all that treatment ahead of you.I'm sorry to hear that you had cancer in some lymph nodes. However, hormone positive is better pathology in the cancer world. You are probably waiting on the Hercept protein result - negative is good. The results are never black and white are they. But give us a few days to get our head around it all, then we can cope and fight on.I have a work colleague who had bc with 5 lymph nodes affected back in 2003.She is now 63yrs old, working fulltime, fighting fit and still smokes like a chimney! Here's me being extra healthy and cop it again in the same place. You just can't predict what lies ahead. All you can do is have the treatments and hope for the best.Yes,you can kiss a big chunck of 2012 goodbye. It won't be an exciting year but you'll probably make the most of the little everyday things that give us pleasure. Chemo is the hardest  physically, of all the treatments and that is when you should muster up more troops to help you.You are coping really well with the mastectomy- is the drain out?Take it easy.
