The end of treatment !

Hi All,

I am relieved to say I finished treatment on Friday! I was feeling very well though radiation but on the last day tiredness has fallen on me, it must have been all that putting on a brave face has left me exhausted. We are have an early family Christmas this evening and I foolishly put my hand up to make the salad, now I am having a hard time getting out of bed. It will get done.

My treatment has been in Tamworth, they have a wonderful new cancer clinic so I have been lucky, as it is the country music capital on the last day of Rad you get a commemortory guitar pick and there is a guitar in a glass case that patients strum on their last day. A very fitting musical exist!

I missed out by not having my last chemo in Tamworth so I went back upstairs on Friday and asked if I could ring their bell, there is a brass bell on the wall for last day patients to ring off the final treatment. I thought it was a bit of fun but as the chime rang out and the past six months caught up with me, I left with a tear and the nurses cheers.

The last day felt good I got more good wishes messages then my birthday. Appointments and blood tests go on for the next 10 years but hey I intend to go on much longer than that.

good luck to everyone, soldier on.

Kim

  • Woohoo! So great to get to that finishing line & (as an ex Tamworth girl) love the fact you score a guitar pick!! It's definitely an emotional time finishing treatment, particularly saying goodbye to the nurses and others who have been with you through it all. Rest up and wishing you a happy and peaceful Christmas. Jane xx

  • Congratulations Kim. Now you can go into recovery mode. Today marks my 12 months since finishing radiotherapy. It's been an interesting 12 months as I have completed treatment, changed jobs and tried to gain a semblance of my old life back. Good luck moving forward. Wishing you good health and a merry Christmas with your family. Karen xox

  • Yeh and yeh for another chapter closed, I too remember that last day of radio I have never felt so tired I wanted to sleep at the traffic lights! Isn't it funny we are these strong women who push the boulder up the hill never realizing how stuffed we actually are. Does something happen to our brains? Yes actualy I probably think part of me is still in a treatment room somewhere. Lol big hug to you well done xxxx adean
