  • Hi Susan,

Good luck with the results tomorrow. Waiting is such a stressful time, try to keep busy as that always helped me and  glass of wine as suggested helps to. Funnily enough that is what my oncologist suggested after our first appoinment. It is very scary. Just remember all the people that are there for you and don't hesitate to rely on them during your treatment. Hope it all goes well.

it all seems a bad dream at first. we all " freak a little bit" somewhere along the line.

  • Waiting and not knowing is the worst part - we all seem to agree on that. I have the occasional drink but when I'm waiting anxiously for tests/results I find a nice glass of red in the evening does the trick. Now I'm not encouraging you to become an alcoholic! Good luck for tomorrow.

  • We're feeling for you Susan, waiting for test results is one of the very worst things to have to go through.  I obsessed for ages (partly because it was 2 months between my diagnosis and pathology results) and when it all got a bit out of control I just kept telling myself that what I thought about it all, what I wanted to happen, was immaterial. Worrying about bad news won't make it happen, and won't prevent it either. I'm not saying that you shouldn't be hopeful and 'positive' (or at least try to be, tho I found it v hard). What I'm saying is that what's happening is what's happening, and worrying won't change it. If you can find some way into calmness (don't forget to breathe) the whole thing might start to seem a bit less frightening. I couldn't be 'positive' throughout my darkest moments, but I found I could be calm, and that helped.

Having said all that, it is freakin scary, there's no getting around it. Not knowing, gah, it sucks!! Do what you have to do; ask those who can to help you; let it all out if you need to; and consciously try to let go of whatever doesn't help you (whether that's unhelpful ppl, anxiety, whatever). And remember this is the one place where you never need to 'put on a brave face'.

Hang in there, we're waiting with you.

  • Hi Susan,  It is a really scary time for you and yours.  What got me through was knowing that others had tread the road before me and had survived.  We are all here for you and when you have a query, just ask.  There is always someone who has had the same issue.  I am trying to lead some kind of normal life since chemo but the side effects are holding me back somewhat.  I will have to just go with it until my poor old body mends a bit.  I am trying to look forward to good times and have some lovely things to plan for.  This is how I "survive" my journey.  Every so often, through the chemo and radiation pains, I do get a few flashbacks and get quite scared of what might lie ahead for me but I quickly chase these thoughts away and think about all the good "stuff".  I hope that you can find your "little piece of peace" as well.  I know that you have 6 wonderful children who could be part of your "peace".  Take care and us pink sisters are always here for you.
