I saw my new GP on the first visit to a doctor in a new town and was diagnosed with breast cancer there and then. Well not officially but by the small print in the blood test he ordered and the mammogram, ultrasound and needle biopsy it was pretty much a done deal. He was not at the time my most favourite person.
In between appointments with my surgeon, further tests and operations I would also have appointments with my GP which was kind of a chore with me being tired and stressed and all and one day I openly asked him why I needed to see him when my surgeon seemed to have it all covered? He simply said I'm the shoulder you can cry on. There were other reasons but I have never forgotten that one and although I haven't cried on his shoulder yet I have come pretty darned close.
