Taxotere

I had my 2nd cycle of TC yesterday.  During the first cycle (3 weeks ago) I had an instant reaction to the Taxotere, with shortness of breath.  The nurses took me off it, gave me some ventolin and then began the infusion again but much slower.  This time my reaction was far quicker, more severe, and now I have been taken off Taxotere altogether.  I only ended up having the Cyclophosphamide yesterday and will meet with my oncologist on Thursday to discuss my future regime.  I am extremely anxious and nervous about this because I am afraid of having missed out on one component of this cycle and what the knock on effect might be, not to mention having a chemo regime disrupted in the middle.

Has anyone else had a similar experience.  I am scared and anxious about all of this.

(Oh, and I officially HATE phenergan.  I got the 'restless legs' during the 1st cycle but yesterday it was on another scale altogether.  It was almost as though my legs were having seizures!)

  • Hi Joey Sorry to read about the terrible time you had on your second cycle. Hoping your appointment with your oncologist goes well for you. Thinking of you Mel :)

  • I had no reaction to this but I have witnessed the crash cart being brought for others who have reacted badly to this. Very scary for you. I now call this chemo "Taxoterrible."

Don't panic about being taken off one component of your chemo, there are many other combinations that will be just as effective. If they still want you on a Taxane there are others to try. Taxol is usually much better tolerated than Taxoterrible, only it is administered weekly for 12 weeks.
