Taxol side effects have come back

It's now been 4 weeks since total hysterectomy, path results showed no cancer :) but the results for tubes and overies showed that if I had not had operation then later i would have cancer . The problem I have now is that I'm getting the side affects back from taxol. The tingling in feet and hands and the pain in legs. It's been 5 mths since chemo :( hope it doesn't hang around for long. Has anyone else had this come back to them? Saw my BC surgeon on Monday and he says I'm doing well and that he won't do inplants yet as he want me to get over the surgeries I've had in the last 4 this eg. Double mastectomy and hysterectomy so late this year I should be able to get it all finalised. The only thing I'm struggling with is not having the strength and always being tired and now the tingling and aching legs.

  • I agree that's it's amazing what women go through in the their breast cancer treatments... and the side effects which can keep going later.  It's also great how generously women share their experiences and pass on what worked for them.  I keep note of these tips because they'll be so useful when I progress further in the treatment.   Wouldn't it be great if they were collected into a good size booket.

I found a book in the library written by a US woman who has cancer & she's done that, collecting a wealth of tips and strategies.  She collaborated with a lot of medical and support professionals and names them in her Foreword.

  • It is annoying though, you think you are over it and then it comes back. Oh well just have to put up with it lol. I am amazed at what we women can go through and come out of it ok .
  • What a journey we are on, one step forward and then you slip back, it does get better, it just takes time.

I do still get the tingling and I am 1 year post chemo, I had an Oophorectomy in December last year.

I do massage cream into my hands and feet regularly and it does seem to be less now.

    Take care

  • Thanks for the info Michelle , I have started my morning walks again and it does help . And I will try the milk at night , thanks again Jeanette
  • I have been exactly where you are, after having mastectomies and hysterectomy - and Taxol - in 2012.

If it helps at all, I had the tingling in the hands and feet - mainly feet at night - and found that a large mug of hot milk (cocoa/chocolate) almost instantly eased the problem.  It was so quick I wondered if the problem could be calcium related?  It allowed me to drop off to sleep without a problem.   During the day, exercise helped - early morning walks, a treadmill if you have access to one. It seemed to keep the circulation going and the tingling at bay.

Now, 2 years on, it has gradually disappeared for the most part.  If there is a flicker, I have milk immediately, and it still works.  I hope you have relief soon.  Maybe try a smoothie and see if it works?  Fingers crossed for you.

    All the best, Michelle x
