Taxol 1/12

Well, I've made it through week 1 of 12 with paclitaxel.

I was given Loratadine as the antihistamine in addition to steroids and ondansetron for nausea.  Thank goodness too. I had the worst nausea during the infusion and afterwards.  Was really strange because I wasn't expecting it at all.  Thankfully didn't need to use my sick bag on the way home though.

The first couple of days I was just super tired.  The nausea had gone away by the next morning and I was feeling ok until about day 2 &3 when I started getting pain in my bones and joints, some of which were like electric shocks.  The other weird thing that happened was my eyes where everything went blurry on one side while i was watching TV. I ended up in bed in pain and not being able to see properly right when a cyclone was heading our way.  Yep, could have done without the Cat 5 cyclone (Thankfully was Cat 1 by the time it passed over here).

I still have bone pain and joint pain, through legs back and shoulders, hands and feet.  My eyes have cleared up though which is good and while im tired I'm feeling much better than I did on AC.

I have my next Taxol tomorrow.... Not looking forward to it... Might take some extra anti nausea tabs with me just incase....

  • Thanks ladies for your lovely thoughts and good advice, I did tell the Onc and nurses everything that happened. Went through it in detail. The one they seemed most concerned about was the electric shock like pains through the joints. So keeping an eye on it. Thankfully it hasn't been as bad this round. Just bad joint pain, diarrhoea and what feels like shin splints in my legs and back. Chemo is so much fun! I just keep telling myself that if it hurts this much to me then it must really be kicking the cancer :-) Thanks again x
  • I hope that your second dose went a bit better then your first. I'm just a few doses ahead of you with the Paciltaxel. I've had problems with my eyes started with the AC I'vbe been using moisturising eye drops the Onc recommended. Also have numby feet just keep telling your Onc what is happening. You must be a North Queenslander as well, Ita passed over us a Cat 1.

    Take care Fiona.

  • Let your onc know about your side effects, especially the eyes. They might have some medications that can help, especially with the bone pain. Hope tomorrow goes ok. Take care. Deanne xxx
