  • hi gang, just thought I would update.  Had first taxotare chemo yesterday.  after a sleepless night the night before I slept in ina hospital bed in between blood test and having my picc line dressing changed.  So far my side effects have been just the usual after chemo, nothing different.  had the gel gloves on while having the chemo.  I have put on the nail polish ad am running in the sorbeline so hope that will help.

So girls, so far so good.  will find out tomorrow when I am off the dex.  I forgot to say that I had 2 sleepers last night so that I could at least catch up on my sleep.  I have been sleeping most of today so far.  I have been eating ok.  had brekky and my appetite seems ok so far.  Very very thirsty and one of the things I was told early on my the chemo is to ask them to infuse extra saline after they flushed through the chemo.  so I did that yesterday and I had another bag of saline which helps with the dehydration immediately after.  Just takes the extra 1 hour for it to drip through.  I am too tired to do anything expect press the button on my robot vacuum cleaner.  My family bought it for me 5 years ago and it is the best household gadget I have and guess what it really works.

Ok, will leave it here.  thanks for your interest.  will wait to hear about your experiences ann and mich and hopefully will report again tomorrrow.

  • Hi Ladies,

I am nearly at the end of my first pack of Tamoxifen.  I started taking them at dinner, but found headaches and hot flushes/night sweats got worse over night, so I changed to the mornings and it is heaps better.  I only wake up about 3 times during the night now, woohoo!!!  :o)

I am 39 and am also worried that I am menopausal as Hubby and I haven't yet been able to start our family.  Althouh, we do have 1 embryo on ice.....  Better than nothing!  The Docs just fob me off and tell me that they can't tell until I come off the Tamox and do some testing.  The usual line, everyone is different.

The only good thing to come of this Tamox, still no period, Woohoo!!  (None since 2nd lot of chemo in Nov.) But, I am dreading the first one I get after all this is over, she is going to be a doozy! hahhaaaa

All the best to you all and keep smiling.

    Rach xx

  • Hot flushes- most likely,  Headaches - maybe, Hormonal swings-maybe. I had all of the above when I first tried Tamoxifen at age 47.However,second time around at 56,I'm only getting some hot flushes which aren't too bad. I prefer the Genox brand as I broke out in a rash and had bad headaches with another brand.I have a friend who had no side effects whatsoever for the 5years. So you just never know. It's early days for you but so far so good. Congrats on getting through chemo and radiation -you are so young and brave. You are over the worst of it now-Tamoxifen will seem quite easy in comparison. I hope all goes well for you now and that you can have some fun times with your beautiful family.
