Tamoxifen muscle bone pain

l have been taking tamoxifen for 11 months and have been getting lower back ,hip and bottom pain on and off. I noticed when I exercise say jog I am more prone to injury muscle pain. Pain runs down right hip and bottom, lower back ,makes my imagination run wild though. Does anyone find this with tamoxifen? Slow recovery after exercise, more prone to injury or maybe it's bone pain?

  • I try not to worry to much as I've still got another 9 years of it so I'm going to be taking for awhile yet
  • I get hot flushes at night, not really during the day and the muscle pain I talked about, but I find it's still ok ,I just keep remembering why I take it and hopefully it's keeping me safer, and it happens in different stages through the month. Like I get hot flushes probably 2 weeks out of the 4. The first few months on it I noticed nothing different ,I suppose every ones experience is different.
  • Sounds just wonderful. I start it next week. I already have osteoarthritis in every joint so maybe I won’t notice ant further pain. Fingers crossed.
  • Great im not looking forward to taking this when i start shortly
  • Hate Tamoxifen.  Constant lower back and left hip pain. Insomnia.  Serious brain fog and hot flushes as well. I had myself convinced the shit had gone to my bones and brain but scans prove otherwise thankfully.  They gave me a script for Tramedo but that did bugger all.
I have only been on it four months and sick of it already!  It's definitely the Tamoxifen as I took a week off it because I felt so crap and guess what,  brain fog gone and back and hips about 90% improvement.

I really would like to feel normal again ....one day
  • Hi @Milly21 , I have had lower back pain on and off whilst taking tamoxifen but mine felt more like an internal pressure and I attributed that to being forced into menopause. I do get sore knees (particularly left knee) and incredible muscle cramps. I have found that for my knees which are most sore at night in bed -I take panadol osteo and I have elevated my knees on a bolster cushion. It's amazing what a difference that has made to my sleeping. I think I would still go and get checked out though  - peace of mind is invaluable. Big hug. Xx Cath
  • To be honest it sounds like sacroiliac joint pain. Have a read of this.

Have a chat with your Dr. Perhaps a referral to an exercise physiologist might assist with exercises to decrease the issues especially after running.

It might well have nothing to do with tamoxifen. I have had this and also recently discovered I have some bulging discs and spurs in this area. All there pre treatment but of course we all worry...so I had a scan in the end to just settle that fear. It became worse after as I wasn't doing as much exercise especially stretches...something I have rectified slowly. Kath x
