tamoxafin side effects

Hi

I have been on tamoxafin for approx 12 months and have been unable to have more than about 3 hours of unbroken sleep during this time - have tried all the usual insomnia remedies but with no luck - is this a side effect others have experienced.

Love to know if others have a solution!

Cheers

  • Hi again with an update.  I stopped the Tamoxifen last Thursday 2/9 and have been sleeping better (have to stop before an operation on Friday 9/9).  I will be resuming Tamoxifen again when I get home so I will see if the restlessness starts again.  I'll observe the next few days as well and let you know.  Hopefully this will help me establish if there is a link between the two.

  • Hi guys - thanks for the comments - it seems there is no magical solution - I have to say I have got better at surviving on broken sleep - and have resorted to taking multivitamin tablets which i think are helping.  Take care all

  • Well both times that i have attempted Tamoxifen I have had big crashes - i work full time and remember both times couldnt keep my eyes open at work. Just wondering if it was the fact that i wasnt sleeping well at night that made me tired.

I am just on my third attempt and only taking quarter of a tablet, but have noticed that I have big trouble getting to sleep, so just trying to walk after work, to tire myself out, and hate just how much the intensity of the hot flushes has increased. Am post chemo n rads since Dec 2009, and yes still struggling with the drug.

The alternative for me is Arimidex (now 48 and in complete menopause from chemo), but that will just suck the life out of my bones, so just having one more try.

Am keen to hear of any more stories from others. :)

    thanks for the post

  • Hi Ladies,

I too am having the sleeplessness with Tamoxifen. I have asked my GP for something to help me sleep and he didnt want to give me anything to start with. Then I burst into tears and he caved in. I know they are highly addictive so I only take one when I am really able to sleep in the next day and dont have to work.

I also still am having numb feet and fingers from chemo and also pain in my feet at night which doesnt help with the sleeping. HOt Flushes all day and night also dont help. I toss and turn all night being hot then cold then hot again.

I dont have any answers for you all but I know if i have to take these tablets for 5 years I am going to be very tired by the time I stop taking the tablets in 2016. I would give my left breast for a whole nights sleep. (Then I wouldnt be lopsided)

Looking forward to any more comments on this subject.

    Take Care Chrissy :)
