Sweats

Hi all im 43 last day chemo today but ever since starting chemo I get like 20+ sweating a day including night does anyone else experience this in 3 weeks I start on tamoxifen
  • Yep. Pretty much everyone. How long does it last? How long is a piece of string.
  • Sorry Nannatsh but you might need to put up with them for a while  :# The 20+ hot flushes / sweating episodes per day settled for me about 6-12 months in, but I still do get them 5 years on. If they get too much to bear, talk to your oncologist as they might prescribe something like Effexor to help xx
  • It improved for me once off chemo and not wearing a friggin scarf! Still get them but not as intense.
  • Nannatash, my hot flushes started at Chemo also, I was 47 and pre menopausal, chemo through me violently into menopause LOL Im 17 months post chemo now and still get them with a vengeance, they dont last long, I think I just got used to them. I was prescribed Effexor but tried twice to take it but couldnt made me very ill and shaky, so I just put up with it. x Melinda
  • @Nannatash I  remember the night sweats waking up dripping in sweat and shivering cause I was cold, and the hot flushes during the day. Found it worst in winter. My night sweats lasted for about 6-8mths before they tapered off and settled same with hot flushes they decreased after about a year, I get hot slushes still occasionally but nowhere near as bad these days.

    hugs xx
  • Still going after over a year. I try not to dwell on the stupid sweats as it only depresses me. I live coat on coat off, covers on, covers off. Summer was worse as it used to start as pin pricks over my torso and that's pretty hard to grin and bear it in public. Nearly froze last evening. Tip: Never commence a late evening walk on the beach during a hot sweat. It was heaven for the 5 mins of the sweat and then 25 mins of nearly freezing because I forgot the coat lol.
