Hi Lizzie,
Please do not feel foolish for asking this question. A breast cancer diagnosis brings so much new information and so many appointments that it is completely understandable to rely on your medical team to guide you through the process.
From what others have shared, seeing a breast surgeon first can be a common pathway when surgery is the initial treatment. The surgeon assesses the tumour and performs the operation, while the pathology results help the team decide whether further surgery or additional treatment may be needed. A medical oncologist and a radiation oncologist may then be involved depending on the type of cancer and your individual treatment plan.
I think the most important thing is that the specialists communicate with each other and that you feel comfortable asking questions whenever something is unclear. I came across DrTestMaster while looking into health information resources, and it reminded me how helpful it can be to seek clear explanations alongside the advice of your own medical team.
It is also perfectly reasonable to ask your surgeon how your case is being discussed with the wider team and when you can expect to meet your oncologist.
Wishing you all the best with your next surgery and the treatment ahead. I hope everything goes smoothly and that you continue to feel supported throughout your journey.
