Starting treatment

Hello , I have been recovering well from my left breast mastectomy, I have to say I had a very fast recovering time. I could drive pretty much from the first week as I had full mobility of my arm and I had no trouble at all regarding healing. The only slightly painful thing is at my weekly visits to my surgeon to sirynge the fluids from my breast, but this week should be the last ( 3 in total ). I accepted my appearances from the beginning , it really doesn't fuss me, I'm really just focused on healing and recovering. My pathology report says that I had an infiltrating ductal carcinoma (grade 3) ; 26x20mm , no lymphovascular invasion, focal, high grade introduct carcinoma at the tumour margin ; nearest margin superior 3 mm , neg sentinel node and one other negative axillary node. Oestrogen receptor : Positive Progesterone receptor : Positive HER-2 negative I will start Chemo on the 25 th ; 3 courses of FEC, and 3 of DOCETAXEL, followed by not 5 but probably 10 yrs ( my oncologist is saying that this is the length what they are going to recommend for everyone ?) of TAMOXIFEN. No radio, yay! I am also going to have the genetic test done and the results will determine further surgery or/ and treatment. Not looking forward to hair loss and menopause, my oncologist is saying that regardless of my period coming back or not , we'll have to think of inducing menopause to stop oestrogen feeding my cancer . And lose weigh, I must lose weight, 10 -15 kg for sure, the ones I put on with my pregnancies . So I'm looking forward to start, it sounds weird but I want to get it over and done with. I read so much , so many precious informations out of all you that somehow I am feeling ready for it, so thank you very much for sharing your experience .I even booked my session with Look. Good , Feel Better and I can't wait for that . Hope you are feeling great and thank you for reading this. Federica

  • Haha, I felt myself being cut into 2 piece and crappy,. but I'll get over it, and as Robyn and other pink sisters said, plenty of fluid, and keep exercising myself........... Take care

  • You have done so well Federica!I have wondered how you are.I recovered like you too.The best thing that you can do for yourself now is regular exercise,as going into chemo, the more you exercise, the better you will feel. The hospital where I had my chemo are actually running a course now on the benefits of exercise during chemo:) I just had my 3 month check, and I'm doing great.I met a lady at the hospital yesterday who had both breasts off.She looked so well, and she told me it has never bothered her,not one bit.She calls it 'flat and free'!Take care, and keep that positive attitude happening.Cheers xoxRobyn
  • Hi Federica

Nice to hear from your positive mind, this is the far more important which to keep encourage ourself.  I reckon waiting is the worst part, however, when schedule release and just follow step by step, put it as part of our living, it wasn't that worse, and we don't need to guess.  High tide low tide still though, but for sure we can handle it and get over it.

Love your face (even upside down.. big hug)
