started chemo today

First day of chemo
the ladies were so wonderful and very helpful.
Home now and feeling ok surprising enough. Not sure what im suppose to feel!
Bit of a head spin but luck no nausea whether it will hit later who knows. bit of tingles down the arms but disappeared so far.
bit drained.
Did not do the cold cap as there was not way i could handle it, so next weekend getting it cut off.
I did have frozen mittens didnt know i was having that and they said it might help not to loose my  finger nails. I had trouble handling that for 2 1/2 hours. I lasted hour 1.20.

not sure what else to feel about all this, I have yet to have a huge cry! Is that normal?

  • I just came over a bit weird initially on AC and nausea was more day 2 and 3 but quickly sorted with other drugs and more steroids. On taxol...nothing but some reflux day 2 and 3. Joint aches day 3 for 24 hours.  I had more gut issues than anything that just made me miserable  (and still not quite right 6 months on) but fingers crossed you won't have any issues.  There wete other issues that evolved as time went on but we are all different.
  • Hi sheryn. Glad things went well. You may not get nausea at all . I got it slightly had tablets to take and they stopped the nausea in its tracks. As to the ice mittens. I was offered the mittens and refused. I kept all my fingernails. My nails did discolour and some went black but did not fall off. I used nail strengthing nail polish on my nails and toenails. Everyone is different Some ladies had mittens some did not just see how you feel.
  • Sure  I took a long time to have a proper cry, and when I did it wasn't even triggered by anything to do with cancer, it was just a piling on of random stuff that broke the camel's back.

My side-effects started to hit me properly around day 3 post chemo 1. At first it was like I'd suddenly got a bad cold on top of an infection, the best word I can come up with for it is "muggy". I hope it stays nice and mild!
  • I was encouraged to dip my fingers in iced water to fend off nail problems (didn't have any really with my fingers but a bit with my toes) so ice mittens sounds like a logical progression. You may continue to feel just fine, I did most if the time. fingers crossed!
  • HI @sheryn
Yes we all react differently some of us are criers and others dont it is whatever is right for you... the mittens must be  a new thing I had to wear very dark nail polishes and that worked I didnt lose any of my nails.
I would physically drop around day 3 depends on what chemo you are on and also your own body's reaction to it.
Keep up the water drinking if they have told you to  and be gentle on yourself.
I put on the movie "ghost" as I knew I always cry when I watch it so it was good to get the tears rolling and then I felt so much better for the cry, but if you are not feeling teary dont think you have to ...

1 done closer to the finish line now
