  • Let the nurses know about your mouth and throat dryness, they may be able to give you something during the chemo. My husband use to feed me crushed ice during a particular part of the chemo IV. this numbs that area so it doesnt get so dry.

Also important to let your oncologist know. The Biotene that Deanne mentioned I found very helpful, the mouthwash and there is also a mouth spray and they have gum  you can chew. You could also try some paw paw cream or some lanolin for your lips.

Some other helpful tips if you havent already heard is paint your finger nails in a dark nail polish and keep out of the sun. The chemo kills all your rapidly dividing cells (hence the hair falling out) and nails getting brittle.

Wishing you all the very best on your journey.

  • Thanks Deanne,I actually got the Biotene toothpaste and wash yesterday.I am probably expecting miracles! The corners of my mouth are so sore I can't open it very wide, but in the big scheme of things,it is truly nothing! Thanks for the reply, and hope you are going well:)
  • Have you tried the Biotene products (mouthwash, gel and toothpaste? They are for dry mouth. Also I ended up with oral thrush which is very painful (caused by dry mouth and chemo effects). There are products to help with this too. I found my mouth/throat was worse with the first FEC and with all 3 Docetaxel rounds. :) Deanne
