Sore hair!

this may sound strange, but did anyone else get a really sore head (like it even hurts to touch my hair)? I'm 2 weeks in (about to have my 3rd treatment) doing carboplatin 3 weekly and weekly paclitaxel and currently still have my hair- have been told to clipper it off and the pain will ease- suggestions?!?

  • Same here. I had a sore scalp before and during hair falling out. Once it all fell out, I started using Moo Goo scalp cream to keep my scalp healthy and cradle cap free. I have had 13 chemo sessions so far and three to go and my hair is growing back. Also,no scalp issues.
  • Same here.  Even with the cold cap.  Hypersensitive scalp the whole way through.  My husband thought I was weird when I said my hair hurts.
  • Yes...feels like you've had your hair tied up too tight. It's the beginning of the fall I'm afraid. It was actually a relief to shave my hair off  and give my scalp a great massage with moisturiser.
  • I had the same when my hair started to fall out. My head was so painful it felt as if I had banged it on a wall!  After I had it shaved the pain reduced and went away.  The chemo nurse told me it was common and to do with nerves. Hope yours feels better soon! Xx
  • Yes Mary, not strange at all. I had TC chemo and scalp was incredibly sore for about three weeks. I couldn't believe how much! And it was itchy too. Once the hair starts falling out it slowly eases off. I buzzed it down to a No 0 and then had bald patches with no pain and patches with hair that were insanely sensitive! But cutting it short did help it to be less painful.

And now thay it's growing back I have cradle cap...
  • Yes Mary my hair got really sore like someone had pulled it . I got it cut short then shaved to stop the mess of falling hair. Get yourself a nice soft bamboo cotton cap to wear to bed especially seeing the nights are cooler, they help. My oldest friend researched 'sore hair and scalp during chemo' and then 2 silk pillowslips arrived at the door! They really did ease the pain. And watch out too, your first shower without hair is very strange!
  • Hi @MaryB83, it didn't happen that way for me, but I belive it's not uncommon for the scalp to become quite painful. I had a different chemo regime,  and they told me it would start to come out around the 12 to 14 day mark. Bang on, day 12 started malting more than usual, day 14 it was coming out in handfuls. It was clippered that day.
If someone has said it will help and you're ok with having it done, go with it. If you're not sure, leave it.
    Take care
