Some reassurance needed

Hi everyone

This site is an amazing resource and I have found the blogs of evryone so helpful so thank you ladies! I was diagonosed in November, had a mastectomy on 18 December with sentinel node test. Got over the surgery pretty well and I am now feeling great but I went back today to see the doctor to hear the cancer was in the 3 nodes they took for testing. So now I have to have my lymph nodes out but there are so many women needing surgery that the soonest I can get in is 29 January.  He also said I tick all the boxes - chemo, radiotherapy and hormone tablets! I guess I am a bit worried that I have to wait so long for the next surgery. Has anyone else had this experience? What do others think?

Love to all

  • Glad to know you've had a good day. I just recognised the top you have in profile pic. I have one the same. Great minds :) Janey xxx
  • Thanks to you all for your wonderful comments and advice.  I rang the clinic today and spoke to the bc nurse.  She was lovely and reasurred me that all would be well.  We had a good chat and she said that if there was a cancellation (although very unlikely!) she would make sure I got in.  But most of all she made me feel better about my situation; the bc nurses are just like guardian angels. I also went to my naturopath and she was very supportive so all in all a great day and back to feeling very positive! A big hug and thanks to you all. It is so great to have this network of lovely ladies to help us on this journey.

  • Just read your blog and I'd like to welcome you also to this wonderful site. It's really hard at this time of year to get started with treatments and surgery. I waited five weeks from diagnoses on the 20th Dec 2012 to my lumpectomy on the 22nd Jan 2013. It was an eternity and I was worried that it wasn't fast enough like you. What was going on with the lumps???? I guess all we can do is put ourselves in the hands of our medical team and trust in them. But I would ring your hospital and keep checking if there is any chance of getting in earlier only if it is to keep your name uppermost in their minds. It can't hurt and the squeaky gate gets oiled as they say. Tanya you sound like you're in for a rough ride with all your treatments but you also sound strong and wanting to get on with it. The year will go really quickly believe it or not and you'll be congratulating yourself on getting through this time next year. Remember we are here to listen and support you on your journey. Hated that word 'journey' when I first started but I quickly learnt that it is indeed just that, an unexpected journey. Sending you hugs and wishing you all the best for your coming treatments. • Thanks for your comments. It is so great to know that people do read our blogs and take the time to answer our concerns and worries! I will give them a call tomorrow and see what they say. The breast care nurse was lovely so I might chat to her. I am seeing the surgeon again next Tuesday so I will bug him then too. It is just so crazy that they are just so busy with bc.  On the day I was diagnosed 5 other women were too! Incedible and sad.

  • Tonya has given you excellent advice, I would definitely be checking for cancellations too. You want to get on with the rest of your treatment and this will delay everything. It probably won't effect anything long term but I know we all just want to get on with it once you know what you need to do. It's terrible to think there are so many women needing surgery! I will cross my fingers too! Take care. Deanne xxx
