Slightly terrified and all a bit of a shock

Hi everyone, I was diagnosed with DCIS high grade last week I have to get further biopsy results tomorrow and then see the surgeons to discuss options. I'm slightly terrified and have a breast that looks like it's done ten rounds with rocky balboa, pardon my sick sense of humour. I am a nurse and have been for 32 years so this is all a shock to me!

  • It's all moving along quickly so I hope your surgery date will be soon.I had a mastectomy and I was in hospital for 3 days- coming home with a drain in.Painwise and recovery wise,it wasn't too bad.I was driving and back at work after 3 weeks.Take button down the front pjs and a loose fitting shirt to hospital with you.Ask your breast care nurse to order the free Berlei post op bra and soft form from BCNA.You won't be able to wear it straight away but it will be there for you.Singlets or stretchy camis are good after surgery.A mastectomy can be confronting on so many levels but you do adjust.I haven't had reconstruction but that is an option these days. You are probably still getting your head around the diagnosis but when you are ready, ask any questions.Have you ordered your"my journey kit" from this network yet? It's free and full of info.to get you up to speed. Tonya xx
  • Hi tonya, Thanks for replying it's been all a bit of a shock, I just went for my routine mammogram and got a call back I have DCIS high grade in two areas of my breast no invasive spread they think, so I've been to,d I need a mastectomy and sentinel node biopsy, yeah being a nurse doesn't help I've killed myself ten times over with worry Jacqui xxx
