There is nothing wrong with not being ready to be or show your baldness to the world. It doesn't matter if you are never Ok with it.
Some people are fine with it and some arne't I am lucky to be fine with it, I don't care, I really don't who sees me with hat or bald. I decided as soon as I was told at my chemo education session that I wouldgo bald, that I didn't want to wear a wig (I think they would be hot, itchy and annoying) and as I am not fussed about being bald, an expense I don't need to go for.
I don't mind the look of some turbans (well ok,1 turban) and scarves (a couple of styles), and beanies and caps (particularly the cotton sleep cap styles) and the like.
I have numerous knitted beanies (and like the more fitted styles, the best) - from the baskets they have at our oncology clinics and Heads Up @ Calvary (hat shop at the hospital I have my chemo at) that are knitted and donated for free for cancer patients; a number of polar fleece beanies (or a fitted style withor without turned up hems) - mostly from working in the snow for a few years,a nd for normal winter in Canberra use; two sleep caps (1 a thin cotton one, and 1 a thicker ?interlock?one) , I sleep on the thin cotton one and wear the other around the house - both free from the hat store mentioned above, theya re made and donated for chemo patients; 1 black 3 seam turban (the only kind I like) - I bought from shop mentioned above; a few scarves (most of which belonged to my husband Mum, and one I bought 2nd hand); and a pretty ribbon flower brooch ting that can be attached to scarves, and hart and turbans - also free to chemo patients at the store mentioned above); and a couple of hand fans (to help withthe hot flushes from the menopause the chemo is going to put me into - temporary or permanent is yet to be seen) - also free from the above store for chemo patients.
I have been VERY lucky in that we have a lot of people in Canberra and surrounds who make and donate hats, beanies and the like for chemo/ cancer patients and this makes things much easier (and cheaper) for chemo patients.
I was also given a free hand kitted lap rug from teh store mentioined (when I went there when my hair started to fall out (after my Look good Feel Better workshop) I came home with a bag FULL of free items, along with the make up etc I was given at the Look Good Feel Better, there was all of the items mentioned above (2 beanies, 2 sleep caps, 2 fans, a flower, a scarf, a couple of toher items from there free/ 2nd hand basket as well, to decorate turbans and a turban etc). So I think I am pretty well covered for the period of my baldness and regrowth and Winter here in Canberra, and I only bought item, although I think I will need another light cotton sleep cap.
Good Luck to you and maybe later you will go out without your wig, and maybe you wont and it makes no difference either way.
Stay Happy and Stay Well and take everyday as it comes.
