Sentinel positive - waiting

Hello Ladies. Well a hell of a lot has transpired since my initial post only 10 days or so ago. I had surgery last Thursday to remove the grade 2 invasive carcinoma. My sentinel node also tested positive whilst I was under anaesthetic and Dr Schwartz removed a further 12 lymph nodes for testing. I am back at the surgeon this Thursday and as I understand it, I will find out two things. First - if there was a clear margin from the cancer and second, if it has spread to the lymph nodes. I am confused about the following - can anyone please shed any light? If the Sentinel node was positive, and the lymph nodes are negative - is this still considered "early breast cancer" and therefore have the positive prognosis? If the lymph nodes are positive - is that when I have a whole body scan to see where else it has gone ? To be honest, I've never felt better, I have more energy than I have in years, I am really finding hard to wrap my head around the fact that my body might be ridden with cancer? Anyone with a similar diagnosis out there ? Would love to hear what your treatment plan looked like ? Thanks ladies xxxx

  • All the questions you have are really excellent to ask of your surgeon at your appointment. We all try to second guess the pathology results but of course it is just a matter of waiting. Otherwise you can be worrying about all sorts of things unnecessarily. No matter what the result or the treatment you need, you will get through it. It sounds like you are otherwise fit and healthy so this will help your body. I had a mastectomy, chemo and radiation last year and feel I coped as well as I did due to my good general health. I hope that the results are as good as they can be and wish you all the best for whatever treatment you may need. Let us know how you go. Take care. Deanne xxx
