Secondary Breast Cancer TNBC

Thank You, you are all amazing women. I seem to have settled into this new life. Its just another fight and I have accepted it. I have realised that it doesnt matter about the numbers (scary as they are) they dont mean anything. I am making the most of every day, sometimes I rest and sleep, sometimes I go out for coffee with friends. My feet were very sore last week, but they are settling back down on my week off. I have stopped crying every time I look at my boys and I am trying to be brave for them. I dont want to waste my energy on negative thoughts, there are too many lovely times to share.

Love shoes! I went shopping and bought 4 pairs of lovely summer shoes and haven't been able to wear them as yet, still trying to get the Xeloda dose right for me to prevent the peeling feet and hands and feet from the Xeloda. This is a very effective drug, so hang in there. There are many new drugs in the pipeline for TNBC, women in America are very willing to share their TNBC journey, look at www.breastcancer.org  It's a huge site with latest research accessible from the home page. They have a forum devoted to TNBC which I visited when I misunderstood my tumour status.

Have you looked on the bottom of your feet for the stamped 'Expiry Date"?? Statistics are based on old data collected from women using now outmoded treatments, so stop using them and believing them! Oncologists may indicate a 2-5 year period, but remember this is an OUTDATED average of all women, regardless of their other existing conditions, willingness to fight and ability to, or willingness to, undertake new treatments coming on line all the time.

Advanced breast cancer should be looked on as a chronic disease that can be continually treated, so start looking forward to, and planning to enjoy the future. More grandchildren? Weddings? Family get to gethers?

Hi Guys,

Once again its the middle of the night and Im up feeling desperately sad. Went shopping today and spent way too much money on shoes..didnt work, still feel awful. Im very lucky to have wonderful family, my sons and their girlfriends have been amazing. They were all here tonight, cooked dinner for me and enjoyed each others company. It is so lovely to share these wonderful times with my family and it breaks my heart to think I wont be there with them. I try so hard to stay positive but Im finding it so hard. Sometimes I have periods of peacefulness and acceptance and then reality hits me and I fall in a heap. I pray for strength, I dont want my kids to remember me as a blubbering mess. Thank you for all your good wishes. I am also on Xeloda, which I start in the morning, hopefully with good effect.

Having only been recently diagnosed (31/08) with surgery on 28/09 - also with clear nodes and chemo due to start asap (approx 2 weeks) - I can only imagine what you and your family must be going through.

What devastating news for you, however it is not all doom and gloom. There are many existing chemo combinations to be tried, new ones in the pipeline waiting for PBS approval and cutting edge chemos available through clinical trials. My last biopsy was E- P- and HER2-, thought it meant triple negative, but no, I have become "hormone refractory" as I started as E+ P+ and HER2-. Like you my only treatment options are the chemotherapies.

I'm on Xeloda, an oral chemo and finding it a great chemo with few side effects. My motto is "accept the diagnosis, not the prognosis."
