second round of chemo this week and feeling so down

Hi

I had my second round of chemo on Tuesday and I'm feeling so down. Have been crying everyday, feel so drained and well craving for some extra love and attention I guess. My husband has his hands full with me and our 3 year old son. I have noticed a lot of changes in my 3 year old over the past month - he cries a lot to get his own way, doesn't wanna eat much and has lost interest in studies. All that I used to do with him seems to be fading away. Feel so lost

  • Hi Josephine, I just got out of surgery yesterday, just starting this trip, I am already depressed. Have had 6 surgeries this year. I think there is an expectation form everyone to bear up . I have not heard from any family members but I do not have children either, My husband is an angel and without him I would have had to get home from surgery on my breast myself and just cope. You do tend to feel isolated . Good luck thinking of you Hugs Peta

  • Big hugs to you I hope by the time you read this your  feeling a lot better. I'm cycle 3 day 5 and it doesn't get easier. In fact I think each time it's worse than before. Well it is for me, but when you read the posts everyone has there own story. I've only got 1 more lot of chemo then 6 weeks of radiation. I xo don't want/ but are looking forward to the last dose. If that makes sense. Chemo is so hard. <3

  • Hi Josephine,

Chemo is so tough on our bodies.  Young children pick up on little changes in the house, but remember this is temporary. Advice from earlier comments is excellent, to contact the cancer council and call on friends and family to help.  Your husband sounds like he's doing a great job.  My kids are a bit older, teenagers, and although a shock, have used the facilities of canteen, school counselors, mum hugs, and helpful friends to work through it.  Toddlers are different and need hugs, I guess.

During my last chemo earlier this week, I found it helpful to speak to a psychologist as I found I was having many teary days, moments where I couldn't control those tears.  She ensured me that the grieving process of my old normal is really a process.  She gave me some cognitive strategies to use when facing conversations with people.

    Be kind to yourself,

    Karen xx

  • Thanks Trace

You are right...friends and family have offered to help but I don't know what to ask them to help with. My son has always been with us so getting somebody to look after him will be a challenge but Iam thinking of asking them to come over and help at home. This will give him a play date as well.

    Feeling much better today.

    Thanks hun

  • Thanks Rowdy...feeling a bit better today.  Yes I have been sleeping quite a bit hehe.

Hi Josephine, you and your family are doing it tough due to your chemo. It does effect not only you but all of those around you and that's normal. Make sure that you get the rest that you need, eat food that gives you the vitamins that you need, and drink heaps of water. Sounds like your husband is trying his best to support you with your little one. Reading the guide to early breast cancer is a really useful book that gives you good information. I agree with Rowdy about calling the cancer council for some advice. Don't be reluctant to call on friends and family, as they want to help, but often don't know what help you need unless you ask them. Sending you a big cuddle, Trace ????

  • Hi don't be so hard on yourself chemo is hard. Do you have anyone who can come and take you out for a coffee, my husband took me out everyday for coffee as I was climbing the walls. Can someone help you out with your son.

It is a difficult time and if someone offers you help take it, not sure if possible but maybe you could qualify for some childcare to give you and your husband a break. Try and rest, I used to fall asleep alot and my husband used to laugh at me, just couldn't keep my eyes open.

You also can ring the cancer council and have a chat to someone.

    Be kind to yourselfxx
