Second opinion
Hi, I am wondering if anyone sought a second opinion prior to starting hormone treatment? I have recently had a bilateral mastectomy after reoccurring breast cancer (ER/PR positive, HER2 negative) an...
I have spoken to my Gyno who is also a Reproductive Endocrinologyst and has a lot of experience in this area...
I have gone to him independently off the BC specialists and treatment as wanted his view on the process and will make sure he is involved in whatever happens when we get to the post radiation stage as that is when my hormone treatment kicks in.
Name is Prof John Eden and he is one of the best in the country (is based in Sydney) and I kust tell you that while he is incredibly anti meds nornally and preferrs to have hormonal imbalances etc treated by diet and supplements before he will resort to drugs he has told me in no uncertain terms that for my biopsy resukts as my cancer was incredibly hormone responsive he does not want menavoiding hormone suppresants. He also feel for me they will be an issue as i have always reacted badly to any hormone altering drugs. Still he feels they will most likely be a must...
Only alternative, as far as he is concerned, is removing the ovaries and even then he feels not taking the hormone suppresants is placing me at a very increased risk of BC recurrence.
Obviously tests will be repeated closer to when I need to go on those drugs and decisions will be made then.
Also - everyone is different so no two women could have the same advice apply to then so what aoplies to your situation would be completely different andnbased on your biopsy results as well as your endocrine results...
Best of luck with tour decision
