SECOND CHEMO DONE

Hi all...second out of four chemo sessions over last Thursday and what a day...firstly tried three times for a vein - never had trouble before but evidently chemo can do that...then 5 mins into taxo WOW - the usual /unusual reaction hit...has anyone else had a reaction like that too?????Luckily they were expecting it so had a nurse sitting right beside me and acted quickly....got the rest of the day over but what a long day seeing docs appt was 10am and we left at 4.30pm. Tired as...Friday was ok but this morning woke with some indigestion/reflux. Normal???? My wonderful Mum-in-law left yesterday to have a few days break but I miss her already...Feeling abit low today cos of that I think....P.S. yes nearly all the hair has gone so into my scarves and bandanas...still got the eyebrows and eyelashes though!!!!! Hope you all have as good a day as you can..take gentle care...Sandy

  • Hi Sandy...I had a reaction to Taxotere as well.  Thought at first it was from my anxiety so I didn't want to bother the nurses...they were busy with patients (apparently I forgot I was patient too LOL!).  Luckily my sister was with my and said that I didn't look well.  The nurse came over and stopped the chemo and my oncologist came in and ordered 2 different drugs which I took before each of my treatments.

As for the veins...it is a hard one.  In addition to chemo (which I finished in Aug) I have to have 12 months of Herceptin.  I had number 6 of 17 yesterday and the it took 2 nurses 8 goes to get a vein.  What should be an hour stay turned into 2 and half hours so I decided to get a port.  Not ideal...but it will make everyones life a bit easier.

    Best of luck with everything....Simone

  • Happy Pink Ribbon Day Sandy

I feel for you but your now half way thru your treatments. And yes Chemo days can be long and tiring.  I have had 5 treatments and my last one this Friday.

I have had bad reflux and it starts the day before chemo when I take my pre med Dexamethsone, I ended up drinking a small glass of milk which really did help much better than Quickez or Mylanta.

After every chemo I have been sick and they have all been different.

I can't stand to have needles into my right arm now as during my 2nd chemo the drug Carboplaten went into my tissue  and not my vein and the area around the canula swelled .   I to get down as well  as I only see my partner for 7 days a month, but this time I don't see him again until December due to his work in PNG.

Keep smiling and take each day as it comes. :) Linda

  • I had a reaction on my 3 dose and wow it was an experience. My last one was fine no reaction . I had reflux ended up sleeping on three pillows and took gaviscon liquid also had to change my reflux medications. I had ginger beer which helped and found I ate some weird foods like craved potatoes ,baked beans. How are you going with the taste of foods. Think we all have down days. I have just finished my treatment so still coming to terms with it all. Wishing you all the best with the rest of your treatment. Are you having radiation?
