It all happens very fast doesn't it and your head struggles to keep up with all the info and changes to you physically and emotionally.

I guess the big thing here is I feel for our kids, although they are all adults now, youngest is 20. But maybe it will all be good for us, that is what I hate most is the unknown!

My biggest fear is that i I will never get to meet the grandchildren which no one has been thoughtful enough to provide me with yet.

holy crap sandy, why the hell do we have to go through this crap. its one thing for you to go through this but when your "life support" goes down as well i couldn't imagin what you two are going through.

Well i go back to the see the surgeon on Thursday to get the rest of my results and find out when i start my chemo and radiotherapy.

I know this journey ( I am beginning to hate those words!) is different for everyone but I found that whilst I was having active treatment, surgery, chemo, radiation, I coped well emotionally. It is now that I struggle more, not knowing what my future is going to be and how long for.

And to really make my day yesterday, my husband who has low grade prostate cancer, had a melonoma taken off a few weeks ago, found out that he has to have further surgery in case it is spreading still and a lymph node biopsy for progression to the lymh node diagnosis! It never bloody stops!!

 

Take all the hugs and love from your husband, that is what got me through!!!!

Do you know if you have to have chemo, radiation??

Hi Sandy, thanks for your words of wisdom.

I did have a drain which was taken out two days ago and all the dressings gone yesterday.

Lastnight i looked at my new body in the mirror and whilst i was looking my husband came up to me and hugged me and said i was still the same to him wellthe tears flowed....again!.

I don't know about anyone else but i have recieved ALOT of flowers most of them iv'e had to put them outside so i can look at them through the window. I'm an asthmatic and get hayfever and if i never get flowers again it will be too soon.

Glad to hear you are OK. Have you got a drain in??? Also glad that the breathing is better, regardless of the cause!

Take it easy and dont push yourself. Sleep and rest as much as you can with gentle walks in between. I was religious in doing my exercises and have found that I have really good mobility now, so they must make a difference. Yes they hurt at times but nothing I couldnt push past.

The biggest problem I still have 9 months later is getting a bra with prothesis on, I still cant do independently.

Well today is my 4th day after surgery and i'm still feeling abit light headed from the pain meds but all is going well after my mastectomy.

It's weird i think all the breathing problems i was having was my breast smothering me now it's gone i can breathe better,( bloody thing i'm glad it's gone!)

My husband has put me on a healthier diet he's been making fresh berry juices, fruits and yoghurt and i'm loving every minute of it.

Anyway it'smy first day bymyself as my husband has gone back towork but all isorganised for me but i'll probabably sleep most of the day.

I found after my mastectomy I felt a little bruised so perhaps that's what you are currently feeling.

Take care not to do too much, rest up and take it easy ... after all it is major surgery.

In regards to your immune system, you could drink juices but I did see a report on TV the other day saying how much sugar is in them and I was simply astounded. For instance my favourite - apple juice - has the equivalent of 10 tsps of sugar in a 2 litre bottle/carton that you get from the supermarket!

I'd think about making my own ... if you have a juicer. If you don't have a juicer you could look for organic juice in the Health food shops or supermarket but do check out the sugar levels as they're really high!

I think that when I had the initial lumpectomary and lymph node removal it hurt to breather, move etc. But mention it to your DR!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I too had 2 seromas- they felt like I hadnt fed the baby in days!

The masectomy is nowhere as painful at the lymph node removal, I think more the emotional pain attatched.I was only in hospital overnight with the masectomy and had the district nurse come to me for the drain maitenance.

Take each step as it comes, rely on your support people when you have to.

I have to admit, for the psychological side of it, I get frustrated at the well meaning people who say things but dont understand if they have never been through the same experience. So use this forum to question, vent, emapthise etc. BCNA is a tower of strength!

Thanks Helen, Sandy and Michelle that definatley made me feel. Isaw my surgeon yesterday and he has booked me in for a mastectomy this friday.

Two weeks ago i hada lump removed and 17 lumphnodes removed (11 of them cancerous). Then i formed a Ceroma under my arm and today i had that drained boy it feels sooo much better now and i can put my wing down and not fly off.hehehe

Does anyone find it harder to breathe after surgery? it may be just bruising but it's very annoying.

Also i've heard juices help alot for the immune system any suggestions on which are the best ones to make?.
