Round 4 - Taxotere

Well today is day 5 of my first round of Taxotere and man, am I achey! Mentally I feel really good which is great (I hate being depressed) but physically it feels like a really bad dose of the flu.

The sides of my tongue are also sore and so is my throat. I am getting a few stomach cramps too but otherwise feeling great! Just taking panadol to try and keep it manageable.

So glad to have finished FEC treatments now. I only have 2 more rounds of Taxotere to go and then chemo is finished! Can't wait...

At least the weather up here in Cairns is beautiful at the moment so that really helps one feel better about things.

I have booked myself in for the upcoming free forum in May and am looking forward to learning more about life after cancer.

Take care all my pink friends.

Natalie :)

  • Hi Mich

Hope you are doing okay. I am much better this week, and managed to have a very 'ordinary' weekend for a change. Got out and about and felt human again!

I found by day 8 of the taxotere I was back to feeling 'normal' again. I did take panadol for the first week, and even a couple of ibuprofen too. They really helped with the bone and joint pain. The nausea was negligble and for the first 2.5days after infusion I didn't feel too bad at all. Was only on the third day that the joint pain started.

I also had some stomach cramping and bleeding (even though I had my period the week before chemo) so I think this may be the start of menopausal symptoms for me! Whether it will be permanent of just temporary I am yet to find out.

Wishing you an easy journey, let me know how you go.

    Take Care, Natalie :)

  • Hi Shazinoz

I just read your post and I am going to say it, "it made me sad" as you are having to endure sooooooo much.  BUT it also made me see how strong you are having to go through this and still stay positive along the way and keep your sense of humour.

When I am feeling down, I just stop and think how bloody lucky I am and give myself a kick in the butt and get back up there again.

My heart goes out to you and I wish you as easy a journey as possible as you deserve a break at some stage.

    LOL

Sending you lots of big fat cuddles.

  • Glad to hear you are coping but Taxotere nearly bloody killed me!

Some advice is to get some Biotene mouth sprays, gels and chewing gum as your mouth break down on you due to the lack of saliva.

Keep yourself and others around you as germ free as possible and limit visits as much as you can from everyone as fatigue is indescribable to those who have never had it and you need to look after yourselves the most.

Keep ahead of any pain with constant pain meds, I was on Endone by cycle 4 and needed it as was injecting Neulasta as well as Taxotere can really lower your white cell count and Neulasta is a killer for bone pain.

I was receiving Carboplatin/Herceptin as well and this could have made mine different and I hope it does.

    Regards

    Cheryl

  • Great to hear that you are doing well.

There are quite a few from Queensland. I live in Brisbane, the weather is great and does help with the recovery.

I am just on the beginning of this journey, as we say. I start my first chemo on Friday and will be on FEC. Not looking forward to it though.

Hope you have a great recovery, and big hugs

  • You are doing soooo well.I call Taxotere the mack truck of chemo.I curled up in the foetal position under my doona for about 3 days when it hit me. Plenty of rest for you now, stay away from germs!

  • Not long to go now.  When I was on Taxetore, I used to lie on a mattress on the loungeroom floor for the first 4 days.  It was hiliarious getting up and down due to the aches and pains.  I had previously been such an active person even though I am in my mid fifties.  It was good to get my mobility back when it was all over - DID I?   No I am on Arimidex and still have the aches and pains. So it is still hiliarious getting up and down!!!  Enjoy the sunshine.  I am in Gracemere, Central Queensland and it is so lovely here as well.  It makes such a difference to your recovery. XLeonie
