Roller Coaster

Hi ladies,

I have just joined the Triple Negative group - my first group, although I have had wonderful support from the BCNA general site.

3 weeks ago life was normal.  Since then I have been diagnosed with Grade 3 fast-growing breast cancer, (3.5cms out of nowhere), and had  bilateral mastectomies last Monday.  The pathology result was Triple Negative. Thankfully my nodes weren't affected - he took 6 to check.

I came home from hospital on Friday, and see my doctor about chemo on Tuesday.

It is unbelievable how fast this has all happened - March normal, April havoc!

Your posts give me courage to face the chemo, which I am dreading.  You have all been there, and understand.  It is hard for friends to wrap their heads around all the information, so this site is wonderful.  Without the support here it would be a lonely road.

I am so glad to find the TN group.

  • Hi Julie,

I thought of you on Friday, and I'm so sorry that you felt lousy after your first chemo.  I hope it has settled down a bit and you are feeling better now.

My oncologist is starting me on weekly chemo for 18 weeks from May 10th.  Then he suggests radiotherapy, and when that is all finished, having a hysterectomy. ( I actually still liked him after hearing all this!)  Apparently even though my nodes were clear, it's a very nasty type that I have with a high rate of recurrence, so he wants to pull out all the stops to knock it on the head.

Yes - I have my bone scan tomorrow at the hospital, and then go back there the next day to have a portacath put in, under anaesthetic thankfully.  Then it's blood tests and chemo education, and the Cancer Council girls coffee morning.  Never a dull moment - it's something every day!

Can't wait to get my hair cut, too - probably next week.  I bought a wig from Starkles and a couple of tube scarves - very easy to put on.  They are soft for sleeping, and the saleswoman was so helpful. (They do the LGFB workshops for the Cancer Council, so I booked one next month.)

I do hope you are feeling better, Julie - lots of hugs - hang in there -

    love,

  • Hi Michelle

Had my first chemo on  Friday, and I can surely say - sorry - I felt like "crap". After about two hours when I got home I felt

Glad to hear that your post surgery check up went great. CT scan will be fine, I have faith. Are you also having a bone scan, as I had to have one? Yes everything runs like clock work, doesnt it? But it good to know that you are in great hands.

I have got a few things for the head, I got my hair cut real short on Thurs before the chemo started. I bought a Merino wool hat, as I was told normal wool can be itchy.

Well I will keep my fingers crossed for you as always, and let me know how you go seeing your oncologist.

Love to you always Julie XX

  • Hi Julie,

I will be thinking of you on Friday when you start chemo. Let me know how you go - hopefully you will be one of the lucky ones with few side effects!

My post-surgery checkup was yesterday and went really well.  Good healing and not a lot of discomfort at all.  Tomorrow the CT scans start so the body can be checked out - they are so thorough - the schedule runs like clockwork!

Will see the Oncologist for the first time on Friday, and will know my chemo plan then.  Next week I am going shopping for wigs, scarves and turbans!  Will look forward to that after all the poking and prodding this week!!

Good luck on Friday.  Love and hugs,

    Michelle xxx

  • Hi Susan,

It is so good to hear you sounding so bright a year down the track - and to learn that your chemo went smoothly - I will hold the thought!

  • Hi Michelle,  welcome to the group nobody really wants to be in but has been given no choice!  I know how you feel because it was the same for me one minute planning a trip last June, so nearly 1 year down the track ...then next bam a lump out of no where....but just like you I had no nodes involed.  I tested neg to the BRACA 1 & 2 but went ahead and had a prophalatic bi_lateral mastesctomy diep flap surgery just to give myself peace of mind.....

Your  probably still in a spin about it all with tests & waiting etc.....but once your into your chemo it really does go rather fast...however at the time when your in the midst of chemotherapy it seems to drag a little.

I hope all goes as smooth sailing as my chemo did for you...& remember just run with your feelings at the time.

    Brightest  Blessing's,  Susan.   )0(
