Return of periods

I was diagnosed in 2011 at age 40, had a lumpectomy, chemo and radiation and then took Tamoxifen for 2 1/2 years and about 8 months ago was switched to Arimadex after blood tests showed I was in menopause.   Six days ago I started bleeding and haven't stopped.  Has anyone else had their period return while taking Arimadex??

  • Hi Joeby, this happened to me after I was switched from Tamoxifen to Arimidex some months ago. I only had a day or so of bleeding but my oncologist put me straight back on Tamoxifen as although, like you, my hormone levels were showing I was post-menopausal they can sometimes fluctuate a bit. She also sent me for a pelvic ultrasound (internal & external) to check the lining of the uterus etc. That was all ok. I also had to see my gynaecologist to be checked over - again all ok. I'm due for revision with my oncologist in Feb & expect that she will try me on Arimidex again then as my hormone levels appear to be "rock bottom" :-) Apparently this does happen quite often but you do need to make sure you are on Tamoxifen if there's any chance you are still pre-menopausal. Hope this helps, Jane xx

  • I have been to the doctor and am waiting to get in to see a gynaecologist, was just wondering if this had happened to anyone else whilst taking Arimadex.

  • I have to agree with the others. On the Arimidex info leaflet in the tablets it says if you experience vaginal bleeding to contact your medical provider. It says it isn't an emergency but you should contact within 24hrs of the bleeding. If you are already nearly a week I'd be giving them a call.

  • I agree with rowdy give your Dr a call its best to have the right guidance and advice instead of guessing, after all we all get different effects from the drugs. adean

  • I would be calling your doc, I have just started Arimidex.
