Results!

Hello to all my pink sisters, and thanks for your comments whilst I was having a whine!  

Well here's the news on the familial group findings....

I am negitive to both BRCA1 & 2 which is a great relief for my girls and to me as well knowing that I didn't pass on a dodgy gene....however giving the history of it starting with my mum, my girls will they be still closely monitored from the age of 30 years of age.  :-)  I have spoken to the professor of oncology and genetic testing today and have also got my pain relief dealt with thank God!  However the pain subsided last night and the only thing remaining is the bad headache but they gave me Celebrex 100mg to take for the added pain and Nexium 40mg for the heartburn which I was already on 20mg anyhow.  After speaking at length with the Professor regarding the bilateral mastectomy & having my ovaries removed we have decided to just go with the Mastectomy with the added free boob job covered by Medicare & leave my ovaries in until I go though natural menapause as apparently its dreadful when the menapause in operation induced :-S  I think I've been through enough without having that as well....so after I finish Chemo with the last being on the 6th of October and I recover a bit from that the operation will take place and it also means I don't have to have as  many radiation therapies as I would have had to have had...which was 6.  The Prof said they would just do a couple of goes on the chest wall after the mastectomy just in case...so yeah I'm back on top of things again YaY!

    Hi Susan,

    They could do the radiation first as it was important to decrease the risk of secondary cancer for me. I am waiting at least a year after treatment and my surgeon told me that even though I had radiation it is still possible for me to have re-construction as well though it will not be as astectically pleasing as if I had it before radiation. I will have implants in both and plus they take tissue from my back for my left breast as well to help with the damaged tissue from the radiation. I was under the impression that you could not have a re-construction after radiation but my surgeon re-assured me that was not the case. This was great news as I needed the radiation straight away and I could still have the masectomy later. Not sure if I had reached menopause yet to soon to tell but my doctors also told me having my ovaries removed was not a great idea.

    Hi Renata,

    Yes I was rather relieved to find out that I didn't have BRCA 1 or 2  but our family is still in the high risk category anyway having had my mum and her sister and now myself with bc.  I'm surprised that they are going to do your radiotherapy 1st before your bi-lateral mastectomy unless your not having a reconstruction done....the procedure here and I will have this confirmed next week when I have my next round of chemo and I might say my 2nd last round YAY :-)  & see my oncologist.  The Professor told me at the familial clinic last thursday that my 6 rounds of radiation would be cut down to about 2 and it would be after my mastectomy so they can hit the wall of the chest of the breast where the tumour was just in case and then they start the reconstruction, which thank God is all covered by medicare :-)  I decided i'd keep my ovaries until I've gone through menapause naturally because they told me that the removal of the ovaries sends you into an operative state of menapause which they told me is dreadful so I soon back pedaled out of that idea %-s  Anyway my dear,  I hope you are travelling well post chemo and starting to feel a little more free and hopeful for better things to come,

    Good to hear that you did not have Brac 1 or 2. It must be a relief for you and your daughters. I decided to do the same as you and opt for the bi-lateral masectomy. Unfortunately I have to wait a little while to have my op as the doctors wanted to get my radiation out of the way first. Good luck with the rest of your chemo and your operation.
