Hi Susan,
They could do the radiation first as it was important to decrease the risk of secondary cancer for me. I am waiting at least a year after treatment and my surgeon told me that even though I had radiation it is still possible for me to have re-construction as well though it will not be as astectically pleasing as if I had it before radiation. I will have implants in both and plus they take tissue from my back for my left breast as well to help with the damaged tissue from the radiation. I was under the impression that you could not have a re-construction after radiation but my surgeon re-assured me that was not the case. This was great news as I needed the radiation straight away and I could still have the masectomy later. Not sure if I had reached menopause yet to soon to tell but my doctors also told me having my ovaries removed was not a great idea.
