Wow what a week! kept myself very busy so as to not dwell on my test results. All clear thank goodness just some fluid around the mastectomy scar . Although I do have some inflamation and infection in my right lung, but I can deal with that ! But on more important news!! I went to the Dragon Boat regatta at Falls Creek, what a weekend. Lots af paddling, dancing, drinking the odd glass of bubbles and LOTS of laughter. We were in 3 events with 2 heats for each event, and yay we made it into 2 finals. Came 2nd in the pink ribbon race, for survivors . Then came 3rd in the open womens race! very proud of that. It was so wonderful to feel that my body can be strong again, and to be part of an increadible group of women who have all been where I am now. And I came home with bling x

  • Hi Hillary,  I shall certainly keep the Dragons Abreast Club in mind and shall check them out at some stage soon.  I went to my oncologist today and did in fact ask about a preventative mastectomy.  She said to me "you should have had it done before you had radiotherapy!", well at that stage I hadn't given it much thought, I just wanted the lump out asap.  Since then I have given it a lot of thought.  She then asked me if I thought that having a mastectomy meant I wouldn't get cancer again, my answer was "well not in my breasts anyway".  She said that I could always get it in another organ but given that my BC was picked up very early, it hadn't spread at all, and that I was to be on Arimidex for five years, the likelihood of another cancer appearing was low.  So I came away a bit confused but not totally defeated.  I feel that it is my decision should I decide to go down that path whether it be the right one or the wrong one for other people.  I just feel I would have some control over whether or not BC might return in my boobs, If I don't have boobs then it is one place less to stress about and I am a bit of a stress head.. So I shall discuss it with my surgeon in two weeks time for another opinion.

  • Hi Hillary,

So glad your test results came back clear., that is wonderful news and you so deserve it after all that you've been through.  Sounds like you had a wonderful weekend at the Dragon Boat Regatta and that  you had success with your paddling, well done, and to come home with some "bling" is even better. Paddling,  dancing and drinking, what a way to go eh!

I have wondered about the Dragon Boat Group, but haven't done anything about it as yet. I'm sure we have one here in Geelong.

I am off for my first three monthly checkup with my oncologist tomorrow, I don't know what it will entail but I have written down a list of questions, as you do.  I have no idea what my treatment plan will consist of but I guess I'll find out soon enough.  I think I will broach the subject of preventative mastectomy, which is something I have been giving a lot of thought to since my BC diagnosis.  I think I know the answer she will give me tho.

Again, I am so thrilled your test results were clear.

    Hugs, Dale xx
