Residual Cancer

Has anyone ever had residual cancer. I recently had a small pea size scar tissue in the middle of my mastectomy scar.  I had the mastectomy in 2008. I asked my surgeon if there was any benefit taking out the lump. It had always been scanned as scar tissue. I had the lump removed on 3/10/16 and pathology showed it contained a speck of cancer. My surgeon said it is probably residual cancer from the original cancer. Anyone heard of this.

    Hi Denise,

    I had a recurrence last year in my scar tissue from 4years previous. I had really wide margins and clear nodes back then, so my Surgeon didnt think it was residual cancer at all, plus I had aggressive treatment back then too.

    Sometimes there is recurrance in scar tissue.  There are always some breast cells remaining after mastectomy no matter how careful they are. Good that it has now gone..but also good it hadn't  changed.
