Reduction of non affected breast, mastectomy on left breast

Hi, I had a consult with a plastic surgeon yesterday to discuss options post mastectomy on my left breast for ILC, two tumours so unable to preserve the breast. I’m not interested in a reconstruction ( at this stage). He suggested I could have a breast reduction on the right side as I’m an E cup so would make it less lopsided ( bring it down to a C cup) Interested to know if many of you have opted for this? It certainly appeals to me as a ( hopefully) solution. I’m an active 70 year so just want to get on with it! I have to make a decision asap ( no pressure!) as my surgery is on October 3rd.

thanks in anticipation. Liz

  • Hi LizzieE ,

Hope you doing ok.  I feel for you with all the info and decision making coming at you so quickly.  I help admin the choosing breast reconstruction group and whilst I don't think we have any ladies in the group who have opted for your type of surgery it does sound like a good option for you.  We do have ladies who have had single mastectomies and have surgery on the other breast to lift and create symmetry, so similar.  All seem to have gone ok. I did a quick search of the online network using the search function (magnifying glass up the top next to the envelope for messages). I just typed in breast reduction and there are quite a few posts that come up.  That might be helpful for you to have a scroll through.  I know you are not looking for a reconstruction but feel free to join the choosing breast reconstruction group if you'd like to look at any posts there that might help.

    Wishing you all the best.

    Paula xx
