- RiversideMember@Zoffiel thank you for your advise. I am still in shock in shock as i was advised last week after 5 years of clearence.xx
- ZoffielMemberYeh, @Riverside it sucks hey?
The mastectomy thing is challenging, but in the end most of us do what we have to if we want to survive. I ditched both boobs in 2006 which didn't stop the wretched disease reappearing in my armpit in 2016. Not happy about that, I can assure you, but 5 years later I'm still here.
Hang in there. None of us like this shit, but if you just keep plodding you will get through it. MXX - AfraserMemberI haven’t had a recurrence but had a mastectomy. If you are seeking information on the latter as well as on facing a recurrence, there are a number of tags and sites that may be helpful. There is a special group on reconstruction - I am not on it as I have remained mono-boobed, but I am sure others can assist you to join.
Like me, most find the surgery itself straightforward and not painful. If any nodes are removed, exercising to keep your arm mobility in good condition is probably the most demanding part - and it’s normally not demanding!
There are also a number of threads on this site about feelings over losing a breast - everyone is different. I wasn’t thrilled but not upset. Others have experienced a sense of loss, of femininity. All of these feelings are normal but none should limit your recovery or your zest for life. Best wishes for your surgery and thereafter. - jennyssMemberDear @Riverside,
and please keep in touch. - arpieMemberSo sorry to hear this, @Riverside xx That is a really tough call. Whereabouts are you? (City/town) we may have members nearby, if you would like to chat with a local .....
Sadly, recurrences are the nature of the beast and whilst we hope we don't get one, we know we may. My husband has just been diagnosed with a recurrence after 11 years clear of his cancer. :( It is just devastating news not only for you, but your family & friends too.
Take care, make contact with our team here if you find it is overwhelming you ... and I wish you all the best for this next surgery xx - iserbrownMember@Riverside
Recurrence is a fear we all have. There are others on here that may see your post and respond. Tagging @Zoffiel
There's a webinar on the topic you may find beneficial
