Reconstruction using back muscle

Good evening ladies, after having a bilateral mastectomy with TUG flap reconstruction, the right side flap has necrosis, and is quite disfigured, therefore needs to be surgically removed. I have recently sourced a second opinion, we have discussed the possibility of using the Latissimus dorsi muscle, have any ladies on this forum had this operation? And what outcomes and side effects were experienced? I have had such a bad outcome from my original reconstruction i am very nervous to go thru more surgery. I would appreciate any comments or information. Kindest Regards Cafrini60

    Good morning Blossom, the surgeon did tell me that I would have weakness, I need to be sure that I can do basic things. I have found that I go over and over the choices I have made so far, which have not gone well, my confidence is low 😩and now I second guess myself. What a horrible year it can only get better.     @Cafrini60 The Lat Doris was the operation of choice with my surgeon who has extremely good results using that option. However I chose not to have a recon at all. Since then I have been told that your muscles in that area never fully regain strength so hopefully someone can advise you further.

    Thank you Paula, yes I am on the breast reconstruction forum, I will message via that if you think I will have a better result. It has been a long and very hard year. 😢 I just want to get this all finished so I can concentrate on trying to be some kind of normal again. Thank you again Paula for your help x

    Hi @Cafrini60 ,
    I am sorry your original surgery didn’t have a good outcome. I think you are a member of choosing breast reconstructions group. If not send a request through and we can join you up. There are quite a few photo stories over there in the announcement from ladies who have had Lat Dorsi reconstructions. I’m not sire if the ladies who posted them are still current on the site but you could try contacting them.
