Reconstruction necrosis pain

hi all

i had my Lat Dorsi recon three weeks ago today.Developed necrosis last Thursday which is getting more widespread by the day. I have heamatomas in the same breast also and I'm just devastated at the situation I'm in now ??Both breasts are totally different and today the pain I'm getting is unbelievable!!! I have a nurse coming to do dressings everyday and she said I will have a review next week.

has anyone else had experience with this???

love nat ????

  • Thanks Nat. Back from theatre, feeling ok. Home tomorrow, and the wait for this result, and the rest of the results from the first op.

Keep pushing for the answers you need & deserve.

    Take care

  • Hi Nat,

I know the nurses are very good, but I'm with Jane - I'd be looking to at least speak with your doctor before next week.

I had a whopping blood blister on my non-reconstructed (but reduced and lifted breast) which developed on about day four and grew at a pretty alarming rate. Although my surgeon rushed to the rescue (it was a Sunday) and had it dealt with, I'm now at Week 5 and it's still an open wound.  Surgeon scraped it yesterday and prescribed heavy duty creams, so hopefully the wound will start to get with the program now, as it has been extremely tender, swollen and exaggerates the difference between the two breasts (which wasn't obvious before the blood blister erupted).

Mine was a TRAM flap reconstruction and I have some necrosis in a couple of centimetres of the abdominal scar. Again, my surgeon was quick to check this out and his explanation of what was happening and - more importantly - how it would be resolved was really enlightening and reassuring. I won't attempt to paraphrase his advice in case I get it wrong and mislead anyone, but what he told me 10 days ago would start to happen is definitely the case.

I'm sure yours will all work out fine, too, but don't be shy about pressing your doctor for the answers you need.

    Very best wishes

    Megan

  • Hi Nat, I can understand your worry, I only had a small hiccup with a seroma after my recon but that was enough to get me into panic mode :-). I guess the good thing is that you are seeing the nurse each day and so at least it is being monitored in that way until you see the surgeon but I think I'd be trying to speak to your doctor in the meantime, even just for a bit of peace of mind. xx

  • Good luck lyn,I wish you all the best with your second surgery and have everything crossed for you xxxx

  • Hi Jane, got an appt with surgeon next Wednesday but at this stage I'm wondering how much of my breast will be left? I don't want to see what's under my bandages today it's so scary xxxx

  • Hi Nat, I'm sorry to hear that you are having so much trouble after your reconstruction. If you think the necrosis is getting more widespread and given you are in pain, is it possible to get in and see your surgeon before next week or to at least have a chat with him /her to discuss your situation and what might be the best solution? Jane xx

  • Hi Nat, sending hugs to you.

Wish I could offer words of advice, but I've only had a lumpectomy, last Friday, back to theatre tomorrow for re-excision as margins weren't clear.

Hope you get some answers, & start to feel better soon.

    Take care, Lyn
