Recently diagnosed

Hello,

i have been diagnosed with ductal carcinoma in situ and after reading some of the  other blogs realise how lucky I am to get this early.

I am 65 and had had mammograms since 49 fairly regularly and was really surprised and shocked to get this diagnosis.

I am being operated on in Melbourne tomorrow and due to the size of the area concerned (6cm) am having reconstruction done at the same time.

I am grateful to find this blog. Every story I read makes me feel less isolated within this disease.

Thank you all.

  • Hi Sally hope your surgery went well, when you can let us know how you are

  • Hi Sally,

i hope that all went well with the surgery.  My story is the same as yours, even to the age, except that my tumour was nine centimetres.  I also had the other breast reduced at the same time, as I was large-breasted.  For medical reasons, my only implant option was a silicone one.  My surgery was two and a half weeks ago, and I was in hospital for eight days.  I am still strapped up tightly, on painkillers, and still sleeping on my back, but improvement is steady.  I can't lift anything heavy, of course, but I am pleased with my progress.  I hope that this gives you some idea of your urn likely progress.  It is great to realise that the cancer has been taken away.  The best of luck with your recovery.??????

  • Hi Sally,
I too have recently been diagnosed with DCIS (Very lucky to find it this early at this stage - I am 38years old and only had an ultrasound to monitor cycts I have come and go in my other breast.
I too am in Melbourne (Outer suburbs). I am having a double mastectomy on the 14th of April - due to the number of them (Many) and the wide spread of them, and I have very large breasts.
Good luck with your surgery, please let us know how you go.
