Questions post op
Hello ladies,
I hope everyone has had a lovely, restful christmas with family and friends.
I am 12 days past my right complete skin sparing mastectomy and left prophylatic skin sparing mastecomy with immediate diep reconstruction. I managed to make it out of hospital four days before xmas day and I was so grateful to be home with my children and family. Still I find myself feeling frustrated, frightened, flat, snappy and anxious often. I feel guilty for this but I find myself willing the days away, longing to be a month or more down the track already.
My new breasts are atleast a size larger than originals (I had plenty of extra belly to spare) and feel heavy and swollen. I have found my wireless bras great but still doesn't feel enough and I am often supporting them with my hands also as I shuffle around. I have minor pains that come and go and still getting bruises of different sizes/shapes and colours coming and going.
Anyway I have a few questions and was hoping that anyone that has been through this could give me some advise please.
1. When did the swelling/heavy feeling in your newly made breasts go down, they feel like a set of watermelons at the moment! Did they loose a little size once the swelling was gone?
2.How long was it until you felt comfortable to sneeze/cough?? I have managed to pick up a cold and a sneeze yesterday was painful still.
3.When were you able to drive?
4. How long did you wear your binder for?
5. When were you able to take on light/normal duties around the home?
6. How long was it before you could sleep normally in bed. I am sleeping on a recliner and although it's OK, my neck is sore.
7. I'm just starting to notice the tight/pulling sensation in my stomach has increased. How long can this last? I imagine for quite some time.
I'm a naturally anxious person and have always suffered from panic attacks. I've had quite a few in the week I've been home and find I often wake up having them during the night. Is this all normal?
I'm sure I'll have a new set of questions in the next few weeks. I am very grateful for any help/advice you might have. Thank you.
