PTEN Gene

Hi all,

I had some results come back today; I've tested positive to the PTEN Gene Mutation. I tested negative to the BRCA 1 & 2 genes but positive to this one. Being so young at 27 now I guess I have a bit of closure as to "why..." however, I was just wanting to hear any other ladies experiences with a gene mutation? We have had basically no cancer in either side of the family so its come as quite a shock. Mum and Dad found it very hard to stomach.

Lots of love

Danielle

  • Hi Danielle

I also have the pten gene. Found out in 2014. Negative to the braca genes. Was first diagnosed with bc on july 2011 then advanced in 2015.

Genetic cousellor said it was passed down to me from my dads side.

  • Hi There!

dont quote me but for memory the PTen gene is not necessarily received from your parents but it can be passed on. So perhaps that might give your parents some assurance. As inkpetal said ivf options now mean there is an option for PDG plus genetics offer family counselling which i think was invaluable for me.

Im 26 now and had inconclusive genetic testing for BRCA and PTen genes.

  • I do have a family history and am yet to get my genetics testing done, but my surgeon told me it's a heads and tails thing, you can't really tell. They turn on, they turn off, and predicting that is hard. I don't know what your fertility circumstances are but the good news for gene positive is that with IVF there's PDG now. x
