Proposed 2nd surgery but now changed

I had a proposed surgery by the Doctor last Thursday which was to remove the whole log of lymph nodes on my right arm (right breast cancer) after the surgery on 9DEC, 15mm cancer cancer from the right breast, and 1/3 lymph nodes found 0.34 micromet DCIS..... however, today I went back and tried to confirm with the Doctors that I agreed with another surgery (I really dont want it), they changed their mind.

Dr Rafit, said quite a struggling and arguement with my report findings with the Path and Onco, since they think of my age, and consequency after taken of the whole lymph nodes, and the about the cancer cells.......... He didn't say : "No you dont need a surgery,..."  he said he feel even no surgery, but work with Chemo and Radiotheraphy still will work. Especially my HER2 positive, so together with Herceptin, the cancer cell should be able to under control.

I had the thinking throughout the whole week : the Chemo will already go through the whole body via blood vein, is it necessary to have another surgery, while just a guessing might have ancer cell in other lymph nodes.

So as per today, confirm NO surgery of lymph node,  but still require a further surgery which is to take some more tissue around the breast tumur area.  Dr feel last time surgery was not confident enough with the surroundings is clear.  What if some more cells found from the further tissue.............................

  • Sometimes you can read too much information and all it does is scare you. My oncologist told me all about Herceptin and gave me a pamphlet to read about all the side effects that were possible on this drug as was she duty to do so. But all I did was freak out! I panicked about things that never happened.

  • Hi Janey......just love to see your reply, how do u know I kept searching info about Herceptin.  I kept reading and reading all different information, side effect, potential problem etc.

Thanks for letting me know, it's wonderful.

    Cheers

  • Hi Rosanna,

I've had no trouble with Herceptin. It's easy compared to the regular chemo, just a walk in the park. (I had Herceptin with three of my Docetaxel infusions but now I 'm having only Herceptin). I feel a little tired for a few days but that's it. I'm having regular echo cardiograms to make sure my heart is not affected and all is good.

As Deanne says, it sounds like your medical team are being very thorough and that's great. I only had two lymph nodes removed and I've had no trouble with my arms at all.

  • Thanks Deanne

I wonder how herceptin will work on me.

I am psychologically prepare for Chemo, and now have to re-study about Herceptin.

    Mmmmm,
