Preparing for TCH chemo

Hi, just wondered if any other members had TCH treatment, and how they found it? I start of 21st Feb and the oncologist has given me a list, but what do you recommend having at hand before you start?

  • Hi thanks so much for these practical solutions. Really helpful. We went to the Look Good Feel Better workshop me and my daughter yesterday, and I am thinking of going blonde for my chemo-trip, instead of my usually mousy brown because the blonde wigs looked so good on me and it seems like fun. Just trying to kick the last bits of this horrible staph infection, hoping it will not linger to delay my chemo start for 21st Feb..

  • I had TC and the worst days for me were day 3 to 6- felt like roadkill.I had a shocking headache and muscle/bone pains. My mouth felt like it was lined with fur and I had no appetite-couldn't even drink water unless it had some lemon cordial in it. I found straws very helpful cos you can bypass your tongue! I lived off lemonade iceblocks, vegie soup and dry crackers for first 2 weeks. You'll figure out what agrees with you cos we're all different.Best wishes, Tonya xx

  • So right about the sore head! I forgot about that, but I remember now, thinking that if I had to even brush my hair with such a tender scalp,it would have really hurt! The more you can do before,to minimise things later,is the way to go I reckon;)And like you say, drink lots of water.LOTS!
  • I didn't have that exact regime, but I did have the Docetaxel component of it.I may be wrong, but I think that preparing for chemo is similar in many ways,no matter what you are having. When I found out I would be having chemo, the things that I(we) did were: buy lots of hand sanitiser.I had it all round the house, and one bottle at the front door.NO ONE was allowed in without using it! I bought my own water bottle, which I used for walking every day.I had my head shaved about 5 days before chemo started. My oncologist actually suggested this, and it was the best bit of advice I was given.i bought Moo Goo moisturiser, which I still use,as your skin can get really dry.I bought Biotene toothpaste and mouthwash.I found it so much better than bicarbonate of soda.It is a bit expensive, but well worth it.I bought tictacs(lots) and always had them on me.They helped with the funny taste in my mouth.A GOOD moisturiser for your lips. And the last thing I can think of,is I kept a diary every day, then you can compare each round, and also record side effects that you might want to tell your oncologist, because you will forget things. Lol! All,the best Jessica, and remember to stay on here and let us know how you are going.xoxoCheers Robyn
