Pregnancy after Chemo

Hi there girls,

I was diagnosed In 2008 at the age of 25 and 5 years on am cancer free.  My oncologist didnt reccomend freezing my eggs or embryos before chemo as the course of hormones to do this can have a negative effect on my treatment and also it was very costly on top of all the other costs. However now I am 30 and am thinking about babies. Is there anyone out there that has fallen pregnant naturally after chemo?? If so I'd  love to hear from you :)

Bec

  • Renata thats great, congratulations and best of luck with the rest of your pregnancy. Its great for me to hear these success stories and know that there may be hope for me when I am ready for children :)

  • Hi Bec,

I have a good news story to tell you. I was pregnant with my second when diagnosed with TNBC in 2011 and was advised not to go ahead with that pregnancy due to the type of treatment I needed. Chemo put me into pre menopause. Got my period back after 1 year post diagnosis, fell pregnant for the third time naturally 6 months later but unfortunately miscarried at 5 weeks and went back into pre menopause. Got my period back 3 months later and 6 months after my last miscarriage fell pregnant naturally again.I am now 22 weeks pregnant and due on Christmas day. This is a double miracle for us firstly as we had a lot of difficulty conceiving my first child pre breast cancer and we were told especially after my last miscarriage that my hormone levels were very low, plus I was 40 years old. I believe there is still hope having babies naturally after chemo.

  • Today I had 5 eggs taken out of me for frozen storage so hopefully in the future I can have a little one :)

I am 30 and a?t the end of June I was diagnosed with breast cancer. It was discussed with my surgeon to have a double masectomy ( I may have gene due to family hx) but my ocologist wanted to do chemo first. I then got rushed to start fertility treatment. The doctor there has been wonderful. I would reccomend seeing a fertility specilist. You will have the best chance of finding out if you can fall pregnant then. They can do a hormone test to find out where you are with how many eggs you have left. Also if you havent gone through menopause I imagine you should still have eggs hopefully. I would reccomed being really healthy with eating and exercise so your body can develop the perfect environment for you baby. The body knows when not to reproduce when the outcome isnt going to be good. Good luck

  • we have the same problem. I am 36 no and diagnose with BC last May 2013 and had left mastectomy June 26, 2013.  My lump is 1mm and it is only on my skin and i am free from cancer after the test. Tomorrow i need to see my onchologists for final decission if i will udergo chmo. Is the chemo cause your hair to drop? Because that will happen to me. I want also to know if someone got pregnant after chemo. But my onchologists told me that there is possibility that i will not be pregnant because of the treatment. Did you finish your hormone treatment. Please let me know ... thanks

  • sorry I have no experience related to pregnancy after breast cancer. If you join the facebook page you are more likely to get a response there. I know someone treated for leukemia with chemo for a year and had twins the year after. Naturally. Got to love that!! not! So best bet is to go to GP and get a full blood test and hormone levels checked. That will give you some idea if your ovaries have kicked in. all the best love Julie
