Pre chemo meals......

Hi!

I'm going in fo my fist chemo session tomorrow afternoon. Have been ok about it until tonight and I'm nervous and emotional...I know that from tomorrow on, it'll change eveything,

Anyway, in everyone's experience, what would be a good breakky and lunch to have before I go? I don't want anything too heavy in case I feel/am sick but don't want to be completely empty, even though I will be so nervy that I doubt I'll want to eat much....

During chemo, I've been told I need to drink a lot - have got water, gatorade, ginger beer.....all good or stick to water?

Thanks in advance!!

Laura

  • Yes I agree that really cold water is the best to drink. I found my taste would change as I was having the chemo so cold water also helped with this. I was the opposite of Paula (we are all different and it does depend on what chemo you are having too) and only ate very lightly on Chemo day. I had my chemo during lunch and the first time I ate the lunch they supplied (hospital sandwiches, fruit and fruit cake). I was so sick that night and thereafter only ever ate a few pieces of fruit for lunch and stuck to very cold water. I had FEC for the first 3 chemos. I did have nausea but this usually was only bad for a few hours on the first day, then just mild. I found it helped to eat small amounts often rather than normal meals. Don't be surprised if you feel like eating unusual things, not your normal diet. I found it helped to eat cold things and salty things. Good luck. Deanne xxx
  • It's normal to be nervous! My chemos were always in the morning. I usually had a pretty good breakfast funnily I actually got hungry during chemo. I would just have a light lunch and see how you go. As for drinks water, water, and more water. A friend gave me a tip to half freeze bottles of water and top them up with cold water in the morning. That way you have lots of really cold water to sip on the whole time. Apparently this helps you not get mouth ulcers. I did this and never got any. Not sure if it was a fluke or not. They usually bring around cups of tea etc. wishing you lots of luck tomorrow. Go zap those nasty cells away!! Paula
