Pow Wow with my Oncologist today

Hi Troopers!

Had my consult with my Oncologist today.....Depending on margins for this weeks surgery, will start in two weeks, once every 3 weeks by 3 = 6 cycles.

I will be on FED - D and will probably have a portacath put in as I have awful veins! Was told all the icky things, like losing my hair and feeling sick, getting fevers... but also assured the medications to control side effects (except hair loss...bugger!) are excellent these days....I will be watched carefully as I have a heart condition too, but as it's an electrical fault, it shouldn't be too much bother..

I left there feeling a little more at ease about this phase, but will see when I actually get to it!

....my family history has put a bit of a spanner in the works so i have had to contact my mother, whom i haven't spoken to for many years, not only to tell her I have BC, but to also find out the truth about the line of BC sufferers in my family, She did have breast and cervical cancer and 32 and 35 years old, but I was led to believe for all these years that her mother and aunt also did, which has probably made the surgeon have alarm bells ringing in his ears! It turns out that he mother and aunt did not have BC, so I am yet to correct my information given to my surgeon..I was supposed to see him this afternoon but the Onc was running 45 mins behind :/ .this may have an impact on the further treatment ( i.e mastectomy) I may need... Gotta love dysfunctional families!  arrgh!Oh well deal with this first that later...

I am hoping to get through this part of treatment without to much hassle and will be filling you all in and following all of yours as well... till then, love and light for easy recovery and beautiful days!

Thanks for listening!

Tracy

  • I was told since I am over 50 it is unlikely its a hereditary thing. I did however track down my father 75 whom I am yet to meet, darn cancer, and found I have a couple more half sisters who don't have bc and neither has my fathers sister so that's good to know.

  • Hi Tracy, I opted for a port before I started chemo, as I, too, have awful veins. It made chemo so much less stressful, knowing they weren't going to have to put a cannula in every time. It was stressful enough without that!

Are they going to do the port insertion the same day as your re-excision? That would at least save you another anaesthetic.

I had FEC-D, also. Ask questions whenever you like. Everyone responds & reacts differently, so I won't bore you with my experiences at this point.

    Teke care, Lyn

  • Tracy just wanting to wish you all the best with your treatment.... Hope you get clear margins. I had a picc line put in as my veins collapsed too.  Yes its a journey we have to go through, we have no choice, BC is a bitch, you will have down days and up days and shit days and days where you just want to tell the world to F@#$% off..... I had my hair shaved on Friday and for the 1st time today I put my bandanna on and walked to the shops yes people were staring (feeling sorry for me - maybe) but held head up high and did what I did.  I guess I have come to terms that this is my new look for now and that's it.

    Good luck xxx
