Posterior prolapse, rectocele

I have had severe side effects from the Arimidex treatment that I've been on for 9 months. This week has thrown me a curve ball with being diagnosed with a severe posterior prolapse or 'Rectocele' my GP suggested the lack of estrogen that has already made intercourse impossible has now made my vagina wall weak and my bowel is intruding.  This is uncomfortable but made extremely painful compounded by my dryness and soreness that already existed.

it was suggested that Anterior (bladder), is the most common prolapse. I'm interested to find out what treatment was recommended as it's been suggested I will require surgery!!

Has anyone experienced prolapse caused my lack of hormone??

  • Hi Pam, I have just joined this group and the Yes product sounds like just what I am looking for. I am out in the country and although our local GP is very good they really have no idea about treating ladies post breast cancer. They open up the computer and everything is aimed at the replacement of oestrogen! In our case that's not possible. My wonderful GP rang me after hours with a website to check he'd found, for woman who were hormone positive which I thought was lovely of him. Will send away now for the Yes product and see how I go. Thanks again.

  • Hi Sandy - so sorry I didn't get back to you - my father has been diagnosed with terminal cancer and I've been away for nearly 3 weeks. Here's the link to the Yes website product page: https://www.yesyesyes.org/products/ .

I buy the bags of 30 water based moisturisers - the best thing for your partner is the oil based lubricant, which you can also use before sex.

Good luck with it, Pam xx

  • Hi Pam,

can you give me the name of the one you get from the UK. life is difficult enough without this, i'll try anything.

i was fast tracked to see the Gynie recommended by my Breast Surgeon and see her this Monday, should have a better idea of treatment for the rectocele then.

it's been sugested surgery, but if i have to have it i will be waiting until after my 60KM walk to raise funds for womens cancer in two weeks time.

They are currently trying to find an aleternative to the arimitose inhibiters that we endure for so many years with a hormone positive cancer.

My goal is to raise $10K, i'm at just over $3K, and really want to make walking that distance with a rectocele very worthwhile,  anyone interested in sponsoring can go the link to see what im doing and why.

in the meantime, painkillers, steroid cream and lubricants, keep me going.

I REALLY WNAT THEM TO FIND AN ALTERNATIVE TO THE CURRENT TREATMENT FOR HORMONE POSITIVE BREAST CANCER!!!!

  • Hi Sandy - so sorry to hear about this. I haven't experienced anything like this, but you mention dryness. Are you using a  vaginal moisturiser like Yes? Some of us import it from the UK, and it's the best thing re vaginal dryness and soreness. Far better than Replens, and doesn't result in a yukky discharge.  It didn't help me re intercourse, but at least it fixed the dryness. In the UK you can get it on the NHS, which says something about its efficacy. I use the water based applicators - you can buy them by the bagful to get the best value. And I do use them by the bagful! Best wishes, Pam

  • Thanks Paula,  I have to find a way to deal with it as I'm not prepared to go off the Arimidex. My diet and bowels are always really spot on. I'm fit and had awesome pelvic floor muscles until now... I'm prepared to try anything that will work though. Seeing the GP Tuesday to see how I'm going. She wanted to send me to emergency to see a Gynie Saturday morning but I had my daughters baby shower and I had 30 people arriving in a few hours time, so as mothers do I took pain killers applied the steroid cream and soldiered on... Thanks for your feedback I'll chat to her about the alternatives??

  • The things we  have to deal with post breast cancer.  Thanks goodness for this page where we can privately discuss the embarrassing stuff.  I was diagnosed with a medium sized rectocele a couple of years ago.  I saw a physio who gave me some exercises but also told me of the importance of diet and not getting constipated.  I have a pretty high fibre diet and it must have improved as I t doesn't seem to worry me as much. There are some physios who specialise in "women's issues" and it was one of those I saw.  Maybe get a referral to one of those first before a surgeon, It can't hurt.

    All the best.

    Paula :)
