Post surgery and pathology

hello

well I am almost 2 weeks post surgery. The good news is that they removed 3 tumours which were all around 1cm in size and are hormone positive. The sentinel node biopsy was clear and so were the margins. Phew! The Breast surgeon said I'll probably go straight onto hormone therapy but I'm not sure if my oncologist will think the same. All tumours were Grade 1.

Im ok with all of that but I am experiencing strange sensations in my neck around my lymphs. This does worry me and I'm off to investigate this further. I don't think its related to the BC but perhaps a whole new cancer altogether. Anyone else have this issue?

  • I am a physio dealing with post mastectomy ladies. I would suggest, if your surgeon has not already, seeing a physio at your local hospital and they offer graded exercises post op and help to get full shoulder and neck movement back.

  • Thanks Karen, I didn't get a dvd. A friend gave me her kit from a few years ago. I'll chase it up :)

  • Hi Rosetta,

I received the post op Pilates dvd as part of the 'my care' kit provided by Bcna (organised by the nurses in hospital when I had the mastectomy). It helped a lot with increasing and maintaining shoulder movement.  I also attended an exercise class provided by YWCA called Encore which also helped.

    Kind regards,

    Karen xx

  • Thank you for your comment. It ended up being nothing. I had an MRI of my neck and all looked normal.

  • Hi Claudinem,

Congrats on the pathology results.  That's great news.  I have no suggestions for the lymph node site.  I do remember the pain post op for the sentinel node biopsy being worse than my breast surgeries and it impacts your whole shoulder.  I used the post op pilates DVD daily after my mastectomy.  If the pain persists, mention it, because no query is silly.

    Take care,

    Karen xx

  • Hi Claudinem

Hey I remember thinking like you. Quite a bit of discomfort in the neck/shoulder. The breast surgery affects a large area!!. I suppose bits are all attached to each other.  But get it checked out for your peace of mind.  Congrats on the results.

  • Hi Claudinem, I don't have anything to offer regarding the lymph sensations, as I haven't had any surgery yet. Chemo first. The news about your results is great. Happy for you.
