Post op, again!

Round 2 done! Here's hoping that's it. All receptors are back, we are ER/PR and HER 2 positive. Yay for 12 months of herceptin! Not! Roll on port a Cath

  • Thanks Michelle that is so lovely :) It's one thing I do miss about leaving clinical is the lack of patient contact and having fun with them and giving lots of hugs. It's such a shame the place where I worked was so stressful that the bad outweighed the good. xxx D
  • Hope you get great margin results quickly and the port is your only surgery left. It is brilliant  - I have my 3rd weekly chemo today (Taxol/Carboplatin) - and haven't had a moment's worry with the port.

You have such a great attitude, and keep smiling even with the worry underneath, and you make us smile, too. I think of you when I am getting treatment from my lovely cheery nurses at HOCA - we couldn't do without you!

All the best for a speedy port - thinking of you,

    love, Michelle xx

  • the port is one of the best things invented I think.

Herceptin isnt too bad - 12 months sound long but once Chemo is over Herceptin will seem easy. the annoying thing is having to go into the chemo ward every few weeks.

Glad u are home and bosing hubby around... :)

  • No unfortunately they didn't slip a port in, that would have been nice! They just re-excised the margins today. I hope that's it. I don't cope mentally with surgery, it freaks the crapola out of me! I'm home on the couch, doped up on endone, in my Jim jams ordering the husband round! The chemo plan is for 4 cycles of 2 weekly AC then weekly taxol/herceptin and maybe carbo and then 3 weekly herceptin til the 12 months is up. I was going to try the chemo without a line or possibly go a PICC if the veins start to pack it in but as soon as I thought of herceptin it was straight to port. I want to be able to swim and beach in summer!
  • SO you are triple positive, I am ER+ and HER2+.

I love my port (sure I get the occasional twinge of pain where it is inserted on occasion (mine was implanted 31/03)), it makes my chemo (and herceptin) so much easier.

I feel sorry for those without one when I am having my chemo (I am 1/2way - YAY! 3 down , 3 to go (TCH - Taxotere, Carboplatin and Herceptin)), while they get stuck and often more than once as there veins collapse etc due to the chemo, and for those with breast cancer you see it even worse as they can't switch arms.

Did they do another wide(er) excision or did you get a full mastectomy this time?

Are you home already? or posting from hospital?

Did they put your port in for you while they went back in (It would have been good if they did, but I doubt it) ?

Are you having chemotherapy or just herceptin?

Do you know what kind of Chemo yet? I have TCH (taxotere, Carboplatin and Herceptin) every 21 days for 6 cycles, with the Herceptin continuing of course for the full 1 yr (or 18 treatments).

Rest and recover and get ready for the next part of the journey.

My thoughts are with you. ?
